Reply to igdat & Steve108: yes, it is getting disjointed but I will answer your Q's to clarify:
(for my Laptop PC) when I open the case I automatically get "log-in" button which I click on
this "opens" to my 'desktop'--so, I presume what you call 'login' is already configured

what I am griping about is when I then, go to log in my gmail inbox, I must, each time, laboriously enter my
    password (not my username)

I have to presume that my so-called 'web browser' is DuckDuckGo, but you tell me
Historically speaking---the present settings (on my new Lenovo IdeaPad) were 'transferred' from the crapped out laptop
Id been using for about 5 years. so ,long and short, Im hoping to get the new machine to 'remember' passwords (as my
    iMac does)

And one more thing: since Ive by far logged into my gmail inbox the most, why does it consider my '10.Forums' a "most
visited site' and not also 'gmail' ?

Thanks, guys, if you're guys, for your help )) Chrysanthem7

At the risk of sounding patronisng, how to you 'go to log in'? What do you click on on your desktop/taskbar/start menu? None of us know the detailed steps you are taking - not even the first, so we can only guess what is happening. There are so many ways you could be logging in: via an app you haven't mentioned, by a browser you have sort of confirmed (but how do you then pick the web page to log-in to), or via a shortcut to something on your desktop. Help us a bit!
