When you add the account manually are you using the account password or an app specific password created via your Yahoo account online?
There should be an ‘Other’ or ‘manual’ option at the end of the account choices.

I'm not quite sure about what you are asking. The passwords for each email account were made by me months or years ago when I originally set up each account.
Also not quite sure what an app specific password created via my Yahoo account online is. I mean I did not create a different password when I login to the web-base yahoo accounts, if that is what you are asking.

The "Other" or "manual" option you are referring to. Is this in the Windows 10 mail app, or the web-based yahoo mail site? In the windows mail app, when I click on Add account, it shows me 7 options to choose from. The bottom choice is a gear that says Advanced setup. Above that is an Other account (POP,IMAP). When I click on that one, it allows me to create yahoo emails, but does not sync with the yahoo server. It keeps trying to fetch the mail, but then has a sync error. It then says "We couldn't access this account. Yahoo. You might need to update your password or give the account permission to sync to this device".

I have also thought about a third-party mail app like Thunderbird or MailBird. Would these be a good fix?

Yahoo, Google, iCloud/Apple, AOL & other providers class the Eindows mail app as a less secure email client so they require consent to allow their account to be synced with it. This is usually done by either logging in & confirming that this is a genuine request via an app specific password or via other means like an authentication app which auto generates a new code.

All you require is the Password for the Yahoo Email Accounts.

You can check by simply signing in to the Accounts via Webmail.

Sign out of Webmail before setting up the Accounts with the Mail App, the security measures these days count it as another device.

To setup the account with the Mail App just choose the specific Yahoo option.

I have two Yahoo Accounts and they are both working in the Mail App, they may be different servers as they are Yahoo dot co dot uk variation.
I have never used an App password, not knowingly anyway.

I thank you all for your input and suggestions.

I honestly do not think it is a Yahoo issue, and I am leaning to it not being a Mail app issue. I say this because I have a laptop that is running Win 10 and uses the mail app. I have added all of my yahoo email accounts to it. I just went on the laptop and deleted one yahoo account, then added it back with no issues at all. With that being said, there must be something in my PC that is preventing the yahoo server from connecting with my mail app.

I have tried the steps of logging completely out of Yahoo web mail on all of my accounts, then went to my mail app and tried adding a yahoo account. That did not work either. Maybe I should have restarted the PC first. I will try that next.

Again, thank you all for your support.

I have no problem accessing Yahoo email via the Mail app due to using an in-app password. If you’re dismissing that suggestion then I cannot help further.

I am sorry that you feel that you cannot assist me. I am not dismissing your suggestion.

I am just confused about the in-app password. I have never done this sort of thing, as far as I can remember. I would not know where to start. I really don't want to sound ignorant, so maybe if you can point me to the proper steps or even walk me through this, that would be very helpful.

I am willing to try anything as long as I know how to do it, or have some sort of instructions. Thanks!

    The link contained full instructions:

    1. Sign in to your Yahoo Account Security page.
    2. Click Generate app password or Generate and manage app passwords.
    3. Enter your app's name in the text field.
    4. Click Generate password.
    5. Follow the instructions below the app password.
    6. Click Done.

Use this app password and your email address to sign in to your email app.

You then take this password & replace the Yahoo email password within the Mail app.
If you require help on doing this then please post back.

I really appreciate all of your help. I followed the steps on signing into my Yahoo Account Security page. I clicked on generate app password. Then it asked for the app name. I typed it "mail app" because that is the app I am trying to get into. It generated password, which I wrote down, then clicked "done".

I then went to the windows mail app and clicked on add account. I then clicked on the yahoo icon and it pulled up the Yahoo sign in page for about one second then disappeared with the following message "we can't connect to the service you need right now. Check your network connection or try again later". It then says that there is an internet connection failure and to try again later.

I think this is happening because I do not have any established Yahoo email accounts in the windows mail app. I had deleted them about 4 days ago when I was having issues. Now it does not know that I actually have yahoo emails, and it will not allow me to put in ANY passwords for Yahoo. Not even the web generated password. It was worth the shot, though. I really appreciate what you did to try to help. At this point I am not sure if anything can fix this. I will just have to get my yahoo mail from my mobile devices.

In order to use the app specific password you may need to set up the account manually rather than just signing in with your email address & password.
