Browsers slow (unable to scroll freely)

Browsers are running slow (especially Chrome). I have tried several different things to remedy this problem (clearing cookies/cache on Chrome) resetting network settings (I also rebooted several times to no avail thinking it would help). Ran virus/malware scans with no issues displayed from either program, toggled Airplane mode on/off, flushed dns. Ran troubleshooter and it found no issues. I have also gone as far as resetting my router. Which did nothing to help. Not sure what to do now. Currently using iPad to post this. This started happening in the last two days. Please help.

Hello, you say your browsers function slowly, and also refer to them not scrolling.

When you say slowly, do you mean- pages load slowly - or that they respond poorly to using a mouse- or both?

    Turning to scrolling:
I assume you mean scrolling with a mouse wheel.
    Have you tried
    a. clicking the scroll wheel and then moving the mouse pointer (an icon with a dot and two arrows should appear and the page then move as the mouse moves provided part of it is outside the window boundary). Does that work properly?
    b. another mouse?
Sometimes fibres e.g. cat hairs in my case get caught up inside the mouse and interfere with scrolling.

If you have, say, a large document e.g. pdf or an Office document, or are viewing files in file explorer and need to scroll - does that work?

    Yes, a mouse wheel.

    a. Responding poorly to using a mouse. No, it doesn’t work when I try that.

    b. The mouse isn’t the problem because I was able to use it normally and the browser was working better than it is now in the past few weeks and I had no problems like this with it up until now like I mentioned above.

Scrolling down on a folder on my desktop with files in it (video files) works fairly well.

    Thank you for your reply.

    Middle click in Firefox.

Similar in Edge, although the icon has 4 arrows.

    - not the point.

My mouse's scroll wheel quite suddenly stopped working properly- there was a load of cat hair inside.

Have you tried a different mouse?

    I asked

Lacking a reply, I assume this is not the case.

The same thing happened with Firefox and Edge when I tried it. I don’t have another mouse to use to try this with.
