Gmail on Windows Mail: Incoming works, outgoing Doesn't send - VIASAT

Can someone give me a clue here please? This user, on Windows 10 20H2 on a laptop 'behind' a VIASAT internet service link, using Windows Mail, with default Gmail Account settings: that is nothing manually input or configured except for the obvious account name/login, and password. Ordinarily, if Outgoing fails, we adjust security settings and outgoing server name and/or port selection but from what I have read, these shouldn't be a problem on Windows Mail default settings. Incoming side works fine.

Viasat customer support, such as it is, shows no server settings at all and their humans say the have no special instructions: just do the default.

All clues gladly chased! Thank you for any suggestions

    Hi, cognus!

I have a satellite connection, and I use Mail on Windows 10 to get my GMail, but I have trouble getting mail messages to go OUT from Mail after I hit Send.

    Here's my solution:

I discovered that all of my outgoing mail gets caught in the Outbox folder after I hit Send. If I open the Outbox folder and click on my outgoing message, I will see "Sending ..." appear, and then "Still working on it ..." And "Still working on it ..." stays there for sometimes as long as two or three minutes.

If I just minimize my Mail window and let it continue to work, after a little while, when I check my Outgoing folder, there will be nothing there, and the message will be in the Sent folder.

If I am in a hurry to send a message, instead of trying to send it from Mail, I log into my GMail account online and send my message from there.

Sending from Mail through GMail is a known problem for the Mail app, and Microsoft says they're "Still working on it..."

    Hope this helps.

    Dan

    @cognus

I just checked again (by sending a message to myself), and it took about five minutes to go out, but it WENT, and I had it back in about ten seconds. It disappears from Outbox when it finally goes out, and it appears in Sent immediately after that.

Wisewiz thank you for that. Unfortunately things just stay stuck in outbox forever. But a question or two:
    - did you flip the switch in Gmail/workspace to allow "Less Secure Apps"? you probably were queried about that whenever you first attempted to send after setting up the app.
    - did you accept the defaults for Gmail in the windows 10 mail app, or did you adjust to IMAP, for instance, or alter port selection etc?

thank you. At this point I'm just trying to find a recent case that actually works, then compare and see what we're missing.
Failing that, we will just pick the 'shortlist' of maybe-settings for gmail, and methodically work through them manually-setting up and giving it a go. I would switch to Thunderbird if it were just me but in my personal case, I got Gmail to work outgoing by just flipping that switch. But that system is behind Spectrum service, not obscure satellite service

    Hi,

From VIASAT docs it seems that you can use mail.trueband.net as outgoing server. If this work it may be a permanent solution.
