marking email as junk vs dragging email to junk folder

I am using outlook 2016 as my email client with windows 10 latest version

For the longest time I have been wondering whether there is any difference between marking each junk/spam message individually as junk versus highlighting all those email messages and dragging them to the junk folder (faster)

    Thanks

I use Outlook (latest Office 365 version). I also use "Mailwasher Pro" and do all the SPAM filtering there. Never gets to Outlook.

The difference is that marking the Email as spam trains the spam filter in Outlook 2016. After a time of doing that it becomes more effective.

If you just move/drag stuff to the Junk folder, or just Delete & empty Delete folder then nothing else is done.

As of May 30, 2022, for most of us, Mailwasher won't work as before: Google stop supporting the "Less secure apps"-option. Probably this may also be the case for other 3rd party spam filter tools.
To continue using MW one needs to enable 2FA and set an app password.
