    Windows Live Mail

    I am migrating from an old Windows 7 install to my new Win10 build and have been using Windows Live Mail for ages and would like to again on Win10. Is there anywhere where I can download this still?

    I have managed to export accounts and folders from my old Win7 WLM as many of my emails are important and I don't want to lose them.

    Alternatively, is there an alternative email client where I can import WLM emails and accounts?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi, I think you may be able to do that with this: (free)
    MailStore Home – Free Email Archiving and Backup for Home Users

    I.e. back up everything to it from WLM, then restore from it to, say Thunderbird or whichever client you prefer.

    I had this sort of experience having to migrate from Outlook Express, to Win Mail - then there was no MS mail. At which point I gave up on MS and turned to Thunderbird. I believe I used this for the transfer.

    try here
    Windows Live Essentials 2012 - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download+

    After install you have to get to the registry and change or enter the following items:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail]

    "RecreateFolderIndex"=dword:00000001
    "RecreateStreamIndex"=dword:00000001
    "RecreateUIDIndex"=dword:00000001

    Then re-boot

    Basically all you have to do is put all your old Emails into Folders in to an Email Account. Then using IMAP sync with that Account setup with Windows 10 Mail App.

    I used an Outlook Email Account and the Windows 10 Mail App, but it could be other Email Accounts and another Email client Application of your choosing. It is a method that works.

    You can find the methodology on the MS Website.

    I have gone from Outlook Express (POP) > Windows Live Mail (POP/IMAP) > changed to IMAP > Windows 8.1/10 Mail App, and I still have Emails from various Email Accounts from 20 years ago when I first had the internet.

    You can still use that which is part of Windows Live Essentials. However, for a simple mail app I would just use the standard MS Mail app.
