Firefox 104.0 new features and improvements

    UI throttling

To improve the performance and battery of the device Firefox is run on, the browser will throttle its user interface whenever it is minimized or not occluded. The system works similarly to how background tabs are throttled by Firefox to limit battery drain and improve performance of the browser and the system as a whole.

    Power usage analysis

    firefox power usage website

Firefox users on Apple M1 and Microsoft Windows 11 devices may now use the Firefox profiler to analyze the power usage of a website.

Well, I guess Firefox 104's UI throttling is the next thing I'll want to disable.
Haven't found HOW to do that yet.

    NOTE:
Just updated MY Chrome folder from 4.13 to 4.20
See first post in this topic for download link.

Other than making the userChrome.css file... neater, there weren't any changes that I needed.
So, you don't really need to update yours at this time.
I just put the Chrome 4.20 download in the first post for future reference.

There have been some changes that we may need in the future, though.
That's the reason for posting the link for the Chrome 4.20 version.

Unless you find something deeper, there is an about:config setting.
    • Paste UI throttling into :config search and it comes up as a boolean.
    • Click on the + to the right and it opens to true, click on true to go false, which is what I have. I'm testing and haven't noticed any appreciable difference, yet.

Mozilla started its investigation and discovered, rather quickly, that Avast software was the culprit.

Happens to people using Avast v18.0.1473.0 and older.
    The current version is 22.9.7554.750.
I'm up to date. I have no problems here.

What's going on with Avast anyway...

It has always been a problematic software.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, but this is the another way to disable Firefox auto update.

Find update-settings.ini in the installation folder.

    Change this value from this:

    [Settings]
    ACCEPTED_MAR_CHANNEL_IDS=firefox-mozilla-release

    to This

    [Settings]
    ACCEPTED_MAR_CHANNEL_IDS=

    Same thing goes for beta
