I tell ya, I'm gonna walk away tonight an hope to gain a better perspective in the mornin'. . .

There's a norton ultra year's trial on the box an it scanned the chrome 4.20z and the extracted folder and declared them clean but I want to chk if there were any flags on runnin' the chrome folder, but that's in the mornin'. . .

I have one more stop to "space stuff" an then I'm out.

Oh! Just remembered I'll be offline till about noon.

I have it fixed.

I couldn't find any flags in norton so I disabled it, tabs were still on top, that's when it complained about being disabled.

I was in error, it's not a year it's only a 30 trial, so I said the heck with it and uninstalled it. Tabs were still on top after the uninstall and again after removing leftover norton reg entries.

So it struck me, what if I copied one of the other chrome 4.20 folders from a working 10machine, delete the one here in 11 and replace it with the known working copy.

Restarted Firefox and it worked. I now have tabs below the bookmark toolbar:


Here's the difference:

This is the known good copy:


IDK where the other two files came from but I'm a happy camper now!

I didn't see any references to that behavior when I was lookin' in norton but I could easily believe it happened silently.
It's like a sheep dog guardin' his/her flock, you might hear a ruckus but when you go out to check, you'll never find the fox.

When I looked for norton uninstallers I found their removal/reinstall tool but being an ol' timer my first move was to use program&features to uninstall; I always thought windows should have the first crack at it bein' its windows territory then I used the norton tool.
Usually when you do win first the tools don't show much when you run them after but it took a few minutes and said success! :Really:

After a reg bkup I edited the registry and found ~25 keys that had norton in them, there were five keys that wouldn't let me delete them, I saved 'em in favorites for future study.
While I'm researchin' that I'm going to add symantec to the mix and look for them in the registry.

Restarting brought me back to the dsktp and I've been purrin' along since. . .

My thoughts on that tool for leaving all those keys is, it would help IF you want to reinstall norton. But it depends, in my case it was; ‘Never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee’. . .

I didn't read all 11 pages thus far, but I'll drop this here in case it's not mentioned already. Firefox Profilemaker

GitHub - allo-/firefox-profilemaker: A tool to create firefox profiles with personalized defaults.

The about:config settings are all stored in the prefs.js file of the applicable AppData folder for the current Firefox user profile.

You can throw your custom Prefs.js file in a portable Firefox instance as well...

In my laptop I am in FF 109.0.1.
And in the settings it is checked ON at Startup that I want Firefox to "Open previous windows and tabs".............but the disobedient slobber doesn't do so.

There have been no cleaning or maintenance at all, when I close it and reopen FF the tabs have disappeared.
It was not like that before.

Probably some new stuff or fancy ideas that I have not grabbed in to my poor little head yet.....or is it a bug?

It sounds like you might have a corrupt profile, you could try F22's github tip to create a new one to test OR it's just as easy to to use the native firefox profile manager.
It might not have all the bells an whistles as github's but that's all you need.

If a new profile doesn't help you, you'll need to either do a refresh or install a fresh copy of FF.

   Note

You and F22 are veering away from the intent of @Ghot's thread which is customizing FF with cascading style sheets (css) and should've started separate threads in browsers and email.

Idk why there needs to be one at the top & one at the bottom but i hit that one on the bottom constantly by mistake.
