Firefox NG on 10 Forums?

Hi folks.


Win 10 user.

Firefox 90.0.2 (64-bit)

I do not see where I should go to if a user has problems with 10 Forums itself. So I posted here.

Firefox is almost useless on 10 Forums. I used to be a member many years ago. Never had this problem before with Win & Firefox. Or Linux & Firefox.

I posted in the "Welcome to TenForums" area, because that is what you are supposed to do. I asked where I should post the thread I want to start. For several hours nobody replied. I had other stuff going on, was not on the computer. Now I come back a few days later, 2 people quoted my "Welcome to TenForums" post.

Yet I can not find my original post. So 10 Forums has links to the users who quoted me:

I right click on the above user names, open in a new tab. I get a blank page. This has happened MANY times over the past few days. I right click on a link, open a new tab. Blank page. I had a HORRIBLE time setting up my new account with this problem!!

My surfing habits are that I right click on where I want to go next. That way I have a trail of tabs left behind. So if I get lost, or forget something, the pages I was on previously are right there in chronological order. It gives me a audit trail. I do not have to go into Firefox history and re-load pages.

I clear browser cache & history when I have too many tabs open. Or when Firefox slows down, I am done doing a certain task, or when I reach a break point.

It almost seems like 10 Forums only supports Chrome & Edge. And no, I have not tried Chrome or Edge yet on 10 Forums. I like Firefox. I try to use FOSS as much as possible. I have legacy HW. Firefox, among other things, has the smallest resource footprint. Except for browsers like Dillo, (Dillo Web Browser :: Home Page), which to me is nothing more than proof of concept and totally useless otherwise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I try NOT to use extensions, because I once read that for everything you install, it potentially opens up a new attack surface. It also makes things more complicated, and the more complex something is, the more prone it is to break. As a matter of fact, I have only installed 3 of the above to try them out. They did not do what I wanted, and I just left them installed.



BUT I think what was causing me trouble was an actual setting in Firefox itself. So I did the below:

Settings> Privacy & Security> Browser Privacy> Enhanced Tracking Protection>

From there, I white listed 10 Forums.



And then suddenly, ads started to appear on 10 Forums.

So I guess I am headed in the correct direction, maybe...

Also, I did not realize it before until now. 10 Forums logged me out after 2 hours of inactivity. I am now going into my profile to see if I can tweak that. That also may have contributed to my problems. As well as the fact that I am unfamiliar with the site.

It looks like I also have to subscribe to a thread in my user profile in order to see the thread listed in my user profile. Not really sure if I am correct, but I just now subscribed to the "Welcome to TenForums" thread and also this thread.

I can now see the web pages for Wynona & WXC.

But I just now tried to quote both of you, and do a quick reply, but it is not posting to this thread. I have to use "Reply To Thread", otherwise it is not working.

Well I feel stupid again.

My "quote & do a quick reply" seem to be working, but the forum is attaching what I type as a new post. Instead of attaching it to your replies. Just looks kind of strange. Maybe I just need to get used to it.

I guess you folks tell me if I am wrong.

Anyway, I now go back to try and see if I can find myself on the "Welcome To 10 Forums" thread.

I found myself on "Welcome to TenForums". I am not really sure how I did it. It kind of happened by accident.

I think it could be entirely possible that part of my problem has been that when I adjust my profile to do different things, there is a delay as to when said changes are reflected back in the forum. And said delays prevent me from doing what I need to do.

Anyway, back on "Welcome to TenForums", I replied to those who replied to my introduction post.

I was asking which forum to post to. Wynona, who appears to be some kind of Admin, told me to go to a certain forum on this site. But I think she is wrong. So I replied to her reply. Then I sent her a PM as a visitor. I do not know if it will get through or not. I have PM enabled on my profile, but for some reason, the only way I could see how to PM Wynona is via being a visitor. So, in the PM I told her who I was.

Do I have to add a 10 Forums user to my list of friends in order to send them a PM the "normal" way?

Sorry to be such a pain!!

Is there are place on 10 Forums for new users like me?

I changed the above settings on FF years ago, and never looked backed. Set it and forget it.

Up to this point, I have been lurking on the web for many years. Always reading, but never posting. (Lurking is a IRC term. OPPS!! Forgot!! Most people use Discord now. IRC= Internet Relay Chat).

I usually solved my problems via lurking. But now, I can not. I am going in too many directions at once, doing too many things, and have to get too much done, FAST.

As I said previously, I used to belong to 10 Forums 10-15 years ago. I did not post much, but I got the help I needed. I think I was using XP at that time. It was before XP reached EOL anyway. So it must have been XP. Because I never used Win Vista, 7, or 8.

Also, I want to mention, I developed a total hatred for everything javascript. I used to shut that off 100% also. If I remember correctly, it was a BIG attack surface for many years. For every OS, every browser. Every 1-4 weeks there was at least one, usually more, serious javascript holes that a user had to patch. But now javascript has taken over the web. I rarely see any security problems with it any more. I guess webmasters and IT folks have finally figured out how to use it and keep what they do with it hardened. And a user can not get anything done without it. So I have to use it.

Also, 10 Forums has changed. So like you said, I have to learn the new lay out, etc..

Back to my FF settings at this time. It got so bad, I could not even post. I could not reply, quote, NOTHING. I could barely adjust anything in my user profile. Until I white listed 10 Forums. Then the whole web site functioned for me. But yeah, like you said, I need to really learn the lay out of this place. And THANKS for helping with that!!!

I will go into the 'Chillout Room > Site stuff' as you told me, introduce myself, etc.. THANKS for telling me about that WXC!!!

and there are tutorials on adding your specs and how to create and upload screenshots.

PMs are a bit limited, meant for shorter messages and infrequent usage - space is also somewhat limited.
Visitor messages may or may not be read- my impression is I'm not notified of them- not something I've given time to considering.

Attached is the closest I can get to what you have showed me. I would like to get to the exact same area in my user profile that you are displaying, but I can not find it.

Maybe I need to enable something in my user profile settings?

Also, why is everything I post in this thread just updating my previous post for that day, instead of creating an entirely new post to this thread? I even put a title in my most recent post to dalchina. Ten Forums just attached said post to post #8.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong. Can somebody help me on this?

It is simple things like the above that I can not figure out about Ten Forums. It is really holding me back.
