New Vivaldi

If you use Vivaldi, think twice about downloading the new version. I didn't and not only did I end up with two icons on my desktop but Vivaldi has removed all my saves from the browser, deleted my start page, and dropped all passwords. Now, the only thing stopping me from nuking the idiots. The 'old' icon was left on the page which still had my start page BUT I am now having to put all my saves back in AND it changed my Ten Forums page Theme setting to Flanders. Damn them. Deleted the 'new' icon.

Also the new version unilaterally decided that all my tabs should stay open and my start page would be my email!

What version of Vivaldi has messed up your config?

When you say, "Vivaldi has removed all my saves". Are these your bookmarks that you're referring to?

I updated to this version a few days ago and it didn't change any of my settings or preferences.





I have noticed one negative feature after this update though. I can no longer use the manage attachments button here when editing a post. Kind of a pest to not have the ability to use that button so I installed an older portable version of Vivaldi, for that button access.

I'm hoping they'll fix that problem sooner than later. I've seen several notifications that Vivaldi has yet another update since the version I posted here, maybe that's a fix for the above update. I'll look at the change log sometime and see what's new.

I got a note telling my an upgrade was available. I think it said 4. I do have a question though. If I restore the last backup will it erase the past 4 hours and give something working again. The speed dial went from full of very important info to a basic Vivaldi look what we have for you speed dial, the original. The bookmark icons on the speed dial allowed access to all my good stuff. They had all gone. All sites were not logged in either.

Twice tonight I have arrived here to find the theme defaulting to Flanders, much too bright for me. I rest to standard, and then just now, came back and it was flanders again. In fact, forget the question, I think its ALL gone.

To get the Vivaldi current version info, click on help/about. It would be helpful to many other Vivaldi users if you could list the version you had a problem using.




What you are describing sounds like much more than a failed update. I'm with Fabler, I'd be scanning for a virus or pups.

what is this backup?

Is it a system image produced with Macrium Reflect or a similar app?
Is it a Windows restore point?


Backups of many sorts can make simple work after most hardware or software catastrophes. Not having backups is just playing roulette with your data. Most users couldn't be bothered until the inevitable data loss happens.

The first update messed up home page and speed dial but actually I use a third part page for speed dial.
The second update fixed it.

Always have a profile backup (if using any browser) and things can usually be fixed even after a dodgy update.

Thanks, now I'll finally accept that 2nd update. Are you able to use the manage attachments button while editing one of your former posts?

FYI. They released a buggy version but released a fixed version soon after.

Don't know. I'm currently using Firefox. I'll switch to Vivaldi and try. Usually if buttons are not working for this forum it's down to ad blocking/ script blocking so check site permissions.

FYI. With backup - no problem. Ever.
