    Still get the double spacing!
That's what I'm wondering. I only have, and have ever had one profile.
When you have more than one profile in FF, there's a ton of .json files that get affected.

How they all relate to one another... is far too complex for me.
But that seems to be the major difference here.

In Sept. 2020 I did a completely clean install of Firefox. I deleted the profile folder that wasn't default-release ....
...and haven't EVER created another FF profile.

I don't think it matters, but I only have one account on this comp... Local - Administrator
Brb... I'm gonna reboot and see if it breaks the single space bookmarks. I don't know why it would, but...

    Bookmarks are still single space.

So I added a new profile as 'default-release', parameters as shown, still double spacing.

If you're really desperate, I would use Revo Uninistaller to uninstall FF (export your bookmarks first), then also let Revo scan for leftovers and remove them.

Then do a clean install of FF 91.0 and IF it has an xxxxxxxx.default-release profile and another one...delete the other one.
Then place the Chrome folder, do the about:config edits, and see what happens.

Like I said... I did this in Sept 2020, just to clean out the dust bunnies that had collected in FF.
September 2020 would have been Firefox 81.0.1

Only thing I can think off is that my profiles are not in the default location, they are in D:\profile name

So I added a new profile as 'default-release', parameters as shown, still double spacing.
Ctrl-B does not suit your purposes?

Is there any way to check if Firefox is "seeing" the Chrome folder or anything in it?

Probably the easiest way is to change Hamburger item...

This line (with the RED dot) "hides" the Hamburger button at top right. Just after the address bar.

    ..Hidden: @import "./css/appbutton/appbutton_hidden.css"; /**/
    Showing: /* @import "./css/appbutton/appbutton_hidden.css"; /**/

    Firefox... taming the beast !-image1.png

Remember... when you edit the userChrome.css file, you have to SAVE it, and you have to restart FF to see the change. Same for the about:config edits... restart of FF required.

    /edit

Here are my about:config entries, as currently set....

toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets = True <--- Tells Firefox to read the Chrome folder
svg.context-properties.content.enabled = False <---- (try both true and false)

browser.proton.contextmenus.enabled = False (bookmarks spacing) <---- (might want to play around with this)
    browser.proton.enabled = True <--- (since FF 91.0)
    browser.proton.places-tooltip.enabled = False
    [browser.proton.toolbar.version = 3

    browser.aboutwelcome.design = False

reader.parse-on-load.enabled = False (removes little blue page icon at right end of address bar)
browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar = False <---- New tab search box, stays as a search box (doesn't redirect to address bar)

And these are just old about:config settings, from long before FF 89
    Set all to False...

    browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser

    browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus
    browser.urlbar.update1
    browser.urlbar.update1.interventions
    browser.urlbar.update1.searchTips
    browser.urlbar.update1.view.stripHttps

Thanks Ghot, but my Firefox just isn't seeing the Chrome folder. The default userChrome.css setting would hide the hamburger icon, but it's still there. I rechecked all the about:config settings and they are correct. If I have to clean install Firefox and redo settings on 5 computers and do without the lone extension I have (AdBlock) just to put bookmarks back the way they were, I may just learn to live with what I have. That is unless Mozilla does the proper thing and provides a choice, as they should have already done.

The only thing I know for sure is that ARI (github) said, you have to use the whole Chrome folder.
There's 5 files in there. In the past we could just substitute the new userChrome.css file.
This time we have to substitute the whole folder... (all 5 files)

The one I linked on here is the whole Chrome folder (all 5 new files).

The other option is just download it straight from github, rename the folder to Chrome and then substitute.

Go here: Release Custom CSS tweaks for Firefox v4.0.0 - 4.0.1pre4 . Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx . GitHub

Scroll all the way to the bottom of page and download the one in RED...

    Firefox... taming the beast !-image1.png

Then you'll have to edit the line shown...to set the bookmarks to single space.
This is the un-edited by me version.

    Firefox... taming the beast !-image2.png

This is the downloaded file, and the un-zipped file. You need to rename the un-zipped file to Chrome, then you can use it, after it's placed.
    It goes here... C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default-release

    Firefox... taming the beast !-image1.png

xxxxxxxx.default-release is the only folder I have in the Profiles folder.
Yours may be named slightly differently.

When I right click the Chrome folder, and choose Properties, it shows as: Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)
So... the one I uploaded here, earlier, shouldn't be altered by being on my computer, so it should be usable.

But... just in case... you could get the one straight from Github, as mentioned.

I don't know why some of you are having issues with settings sticking. You must use whole package as Ghot mentioned it won't work w/o it.

I also would set all three browser.proton lines to true in about:config.

Maybe best to ask for help directly.
    GENERAL discussion, feedback, questions belong here! (v13) . Issue #404 . Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx . GitHub

Also, DL latest as it fixes some issues in the org 4.0 release, I am currently using 4.0.1 pre3
