Edge totally ignores the ABOUT:BLANK GPO setting

Do not get me wrong here, I like the new Edge Chromium, but if MS does not let users to choose whatever the New Tab content may be, then I meed to leave this browser and choose something else...

I even downloaded the Edge policy templates and imported them into my local GPO settings and configured it to be set to ABOUT:BLANK did a GPUPDATE /FORCE and still the Microsoft content page appeares whenever I choose a New tab page.

Is there any other ways to accomplish this?

I did get it to show a blank page- but then Edge updated and that was overridden.
You just need to follow the right instructions.

The New Tab option has always been what MS wants it to be. You can minimise the content down to a simple Microsoft logo and a search bar, but that's it. ABOUT:BLANK doesn't work on a new tab.

However, on the rare occasion I use Edge, I've set up an "ABOUT:BLANK" shortcut in the Favourites bar. Just right click > open in new tab

The group policy setting in discussion is on domain joined machines only.

At least I got the contents to be turned off and now just have the MS search bar. Looking cleaner now. Thanks!

    I have a Solution

Delete all the shortcuts for Credge from your Desktop & Start menu.

Download & install Vivaldi browser and start enjoying the endless browser configurations with operations exactly how you prefer. Easy & simple!

I don't know how or why some people develop this acceptance to be monopolized by M$.
I'm not trying to be rude, I truly don't get it. My browser does exactly what I want and never annoys me.

I wrote my own about_blank.htm file (161 bytes) in my Documents directory ("Folder") with the following text:

    <HTML><HEAD> <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <TITLE>about:blank</TITLE></HEAD><BODY></BODY></HTML>

then pointed the browser to that file. This trick works for any browser.
