Hi sportflyer,
I'm looking to clarify your dilemma, please confirm a few items.
You have no difficulty surfing with Chrome or Edge?
The problem you have is while searching for an item on the Amazon.com website?
Or you're unable to use a search engine after loading the amazon page?
I understand that Chrome did have a feature that you could configure a search function that allowed you to click on the address bar, enter a + spacebar and an Omnibox bubble would open and you could simply enter your search item and see the Amazon.com results. Is this what you're referring to, such as the link below?
Search Amazon From Chrome Address Bar - Patrick Sheedy
I've heard that this feature may have been deprecated or temporarily unavailable, not sure which. See link below.
Chrome 88 disables space bar shortcut for custom search engines, but there's a fix
Or there's this solution with an extension that provides access via a right click context menu.
Right Click Search on Amazon - Chrome Web Store
Then there's my preferred approach, using the custom search feature in Vivaldi browser. I can use right-click context and search whatever I choose to configure. It happens I use Amazon.com and Amazon.ca among a few other types.
PS: I see you've solved your problem, congrats and well done. I'll leave my post as further info for future fault remediation.
