Stop edge from opening new tabs from search links?

Chrome does not do that. Problem is, you do a search, and click on a search link, it opens a new tab, and leaves the bing seach tab open. And after a while, you can have very many Bing search tabs open

In the left pane, click on the Pop-ups and Redirects option.

STEP 4 does not exist for me.

That link has missed out a step, which is to click on Cookies & site permissions after Settings before you see Pop-ups and Redirects (about half-way down).

But I think your issue is more likely to be solved by a Bing setting: Click the menu at top right of any Bing page, then Settings, then More; and uncheck Open links from search results in a new tab or window under Results.

    ok, thanks it does work.

First did this in Chrome at Bing.com, but from EDGE keeps opening in a new tab, leaving the search tab open.
Discovered you have to also make that change in Bing.com for EDGE browser.
Anyhow, I had Chrome open, and did that change at Bing.com. but it is not a global change, I had to open EDGE, then Bing.com to make it work in EDGE.

unfortunately, it has reverted to its former behavior of leaving search tabs open, and I did nothing to change it.
Edge Browser does do updates, so maybe it resets this setting.
Very easy to notice as you get tons of 'b' tabs open clogging up the works

You probably need to stop clearing cookies, either on exit or by a cleaner program.

It's a Bing setting, but it's retained in Edge or Chrome by means of a site cookie.

Did nothing but allow the most recent EDGE update and back to the former behavior. Maybe updates clears cookies.

Also on the restart wiped out all my prior opened pages.

If you want open tabs to be retained after an Edge restart, you have to set Settings, On startup to Continue where you left off.

I know that, it always used to do that. But the setting got changed when the other setting got changed.

As of a few days ago, I see they have a new update for EDGE, but I wont click update cause every time I do that on like 3 PC's, I have to go in and make 2 adjustments to the cookies, one is for it always opens new tabs, other is well I forget right now, but might be it no longer reloads pages on startup. I will see how long websites keep working on EDGE without doing the update.
