It must be somehow related to GPU Hardware acceleration. Currently me PC is is "lag mode" for maybe 30 minutes already, strange enough because it often goes away after a couple of minutes. This time it started together with Twitter. I just turned off HA acceleration in Edge, and CPU Load falls in between the "lag" or "no lag" mode. I just wonder if the bug is somewhere within Chromium or Windows, since is has been with me for so long?

Maybe, but unfortunately Windows 10 isn't officially supported on the T420 and (as you already know) the latest graphics driver for Windows 8.1 is dated 2015. Here's a drastic suggestion, ie have you considered going back to Windows 8.1? If the latest versions of the browsers are supported on 8.1 you might get better functionality.

Haha, rather would I go back to Windows 7 and use the update hack. Actually I did the upgrade because I wanted to get rid of buildup of like 25GB of Windows update trash and I also modded my machine with a QHD display which needs scaling that works better on windows 10? Beyond that, I prefer Windows 7. Really miss aero But this new display also complicates the issue in a sense that the high resolution probably contributes to CPU load in the "lag" mode. I never had the high resolution with Windows 7 so maybe the problem even existed before and it was hard to notice.

Actually I thought about it. But to be honest, if the system is in "normal" mode, it works like a charm even at high resolution. So it cant really be a performance issue in general. And too be honest, I am neither fond of the additional clutter nor the cost.
If it works sometimes, why not always?
