    Browser(s) reporting ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED

    Hello!

The system works fine until you let it set idle for a number of hours and then all of a sudden you cannot browse anywhere. Doesn't matter what browser, Edge, Chrome, Firefox they all give the same error. Even for localhost and the loopback.

Now ... if you ping those same address from the command line it tells you a different story.

    ping.txt

I ran Windows diagnostics and it came up dry, no issues or errors found.

I do not put my PC to sleep/hibernate. I just shut my monitor off or if I'm super lazy I'll just let the monitor time out. When the system gets rebooted works fine! But this is annoying!
If you need to me dig up any other logs or diagnostics just let me know which!
Thanks for any and all help!
    MS Windows 10 Pro
    Version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.962)

Normally this is the error that been around since vista in that it looses the ip and takes a long time to regain it from dhcp. The normal fix is to set a fixed ip. On wake up from a cmd prompt type

    ipconfig /all

see if its lost the ip

At least since Windows 7, is a nasty bug, which may be caused by an update, where it takes longer to become ready than a 56K modem!

    That was my first check.

I do however set my IP at the router from the MAC address. You think I should turn that off and designate it at the adapter?

I went ahead and removed it from the router and applied it to the network adapter. Lets see what happens!

Sorry so long for an update ...

I assigned the network adapter a static address. And after some random amount of time I still get the ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED from the browsers.

Only way out of it is to reboot .. every time!

And .. I even disabled the adapter, removed the drivers went out the manufacturer downloaded the latest and greatest drivers. Installed those and still no joy.

    Next?

I hate bring up an old post, but I'm having the same exact problem. It seems as though there are no answers on what this could be, or what was learned.

This image is how I feel right now... looking for any little breadcrumbs.

I've been having this same issue for the past several months. If I already have a website open and I click a link, nothing happens. It's very bizarre.

Only solution is to reboot but it will randomly happen again at some point--sometimes 3 days later, sometimes hours later. I've never been disconnected from a game, but it does occur when I'm browsing or if the computer has been idle.

It seems like it's related to some kind of Windows update. I've completely reformatted several times but eventually ran into the issue after the updates. Even upgrading to Windows 11 didn't help.

This reddit thread led me to a fix: "ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED Windows 11 Custom PC PLEASE HELP"

I opened resource monitor and noticed the Tobii Eye Tracker was using a lot of handles so I turned off the service and that immediately fixed the problem without restarting. So look at resource monitor and try disabling services using an exceptional number of handles. This doesn't solve the underlying problem of "why", but I don't want to use the eye tracker anyway.
