Did you get this "automatically" (in the background via tasks/services as above) OR did you kick off a manual update by clicking on Help & Feedback->About Microsoft Edge within Edge itself?
All my machines used to do this with extreme speed - usually they would be all updated before I was even aware of a new release. Now none will update at all.
Sonic.
Usually going to the about screen also runs a check, e.g. I went there now to confirm my version which is 89.0.774.77, and its running an update. So the scheduled tasks didnt do an update, whatever system they have in place I guess we dont quite understand, but sometimes I know edge will detect an update whilst its running so I think the task might need edge to be running to do an update.

After update its 90.0.818.42
I have documented exactly what tasks and services drive the auto updater and confirmed with Microsoft. By design - Edge is supposed to work exactly like Chrome - it updates itself on the fly in the background with no user intervention and certainly no need to swing up to the About screen.
This has been working like clockwork for months (since April 2020 for me) so I do not understand how all of my machines suddenly just stopped doing it. I can't imagine that millions of Edge users have been all going to the About menu in Edge to get an update since April of last year. Most normal folks would have no idea that update check even exists at that location so it makes no sense.
I also have a truckload of log data (located in a hidden system folder at
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\Log\MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.log
That clearly shows that Edge has been running the scheduled tasks on time everytime but there is no log entries showing why it's not updating itself. Might be time for an actual support call to MS on this.
Cheers
Sonic.
It is possible its a bug yeah, you have some data, go and log it, but I dont suggest the microsoft technet forum, you will just be told to run sfc or maybe reinstall windows.
There is a send feedback option in Edge.
I've only gotten one 'automatic' update for the New Edge but don't often use it. I do the Help, About to get the updates as I wish, same for Firefox. Vivaldi gives a notice when I open it and an update is available.
All
SOLVED. After speaking with MS Support - it seems they decided to issue a "global" pause on updates this past week (but neglected to really tell anyone about it).
AND - only by manually invoking an update check does a target workstation get the latest version - which explains why all my machines suddenly stopped getting updates all at the same time.
Would have been nice to get an announcement of some sort on this - or maybe there was and I am just not looking in the right place.
Anyway - I will proceed manually until they decide to turn the auto updates back on.
Cheers!
Sonic
Maybe here, but I no longer receive it, since my email provider considers MS as spam.
