    Second Try - Windows Outlook.Live,Com

This is getting a bit urgent

    Original Post:

    Windows 10 ver 1909

A few days ago Outlook.live.com ceased receiving and sending emails . Outlook 365 continues to do so. Windows 10 People App continues to sync with People on Outlook.Live. All emails that existed in Live have disappeared. I have not deliberately made any changes of any sort in Live. All emails in Cox Webmail appear intact.

I've no idea how to get Live working again and will certainly appreciate any help?

    Thank you

Not sure what help you've received so far, but have you seen this link? Not sure how old this Cox web page is....

Yours is the only reply I've had . (:
The link you referred to seems to be left behind out there somewhere but I finally found it. It doesn't seem to apply to Outlook Live, the web based email service but what do I know.

My outlook live was humming right along until about a week or two ago. Go figure!

    Hi Bluewind,

Are you saying that with your Outlook.com webmail, all of the email content has magically evaporated yet the same emails are currently visible and available on your PC with an Outlook365 client?

Do you have the email account on Outlook365 configured as IMAP or POP as apposed to MS exchange?

Regardless, have you attempted a recovery such as is depicted at this site? It does suggest this recovery is only available within 14 days.

I've always made periodic backups of the pst files from an Outlook client and now do the same for ost files now used in Outlook. I like options when my PC does something odd or craps out.

If you do have all of your content locally with Outlook365, this tool may assist you to import that data into an Outlook.com webmail service. Be sure to backup any ost files first. You may want to start that practice anyway.

I wasn't sure if you were accessing your outlook.com email thru a mail client or not. If so, then the link may be helpful. If you're saying that you're accessing outlook.com thru the web portal and your mail has disappeared, not sure I can be of much help on that. Have you tried Microsoft support?

All my emails are visible under 365 and those accounts are set up as POP3. And like you, I backup my .pst files regularly. Once I get this straightened out I will do the same with the .ost files. Good suggestion!

    Thank you very much.

    You're welcome.

As far as I know, if they're setup as a pop3 type account, all of the email will be downloaded from the mail server and your webmail will appear empty.

Try setting up an account as an IMAP and everything stays on the server, only a copy is downloaded to your local client.

I actually configured this setup a few months ago for a client.

I switched her email from an IMAP to a POP3 because the ISP only provided 1GB on the server.

With IMAP all the content stays on the server and a copy is downloaded.

With a POP3, all content is downloaded to the local client.

Keep in mind that because all of the content has been downloaded, only new content will appear on the server.

I have witnessed an exception with certain mail servers but this is not the usual happening.

If replacement of the online content is of interest, after you set the account to IMAP, you might investigate that outlook.com import tool I posted above.
