Making a Web Site Logo Live

Hi,

Hope I'm describing what I want good enough.

There was a time back in XP & 7 days I could drag some company website logos to my desktop, manualy associate their website to it then by clicking on it I would be taken straight to the website.

This still happens without effort on my part for example, Amazon, Ebay icons/logos are on my desktop, I click on them, straight to their home page.

But some companies I deal with I can drag their home page/website to my desktop but it will create a bog standard shortcut like below.

I was shown how to associate a website to its own logo on my desktop but it was so long ago I have forgotten.

Could someone tell me in simple terms how its done?

Right click>Properties>Change icon.

Thanks Edwin but that's not what I want.

The website's own logo/icon I want to to associate their website to.

I hear ya!
You can do that from within Internet Explorer but the icons look chintzy...



The other way is a little more work...

Of course, you could also do the 'Create a shortcut' thing from within 'chrome'...

Thanks Edwin, I got there in the end, not quite your route but close.

In the end I used an Ico converter.

So took the existing logo or looked for one in Google images, downloaded it to desk top, made sure file format was PNG, ( for some reason ico converters prefer the original image to have a PNG file extensions, then converted and saved it to a folder in downloads, dragged converted file to my desktop, right clicked, web properties, browse to converted file, clicked OK, then apply--that was it, live icons to websites.

Much appreciated for your advise put me on the right track.

Just make sure you don't delete the converted file from your Desktop, if you do, the icon on the link will go blank!

Best to keep all ico's in a folder somewhere that won't move, then point to that when browsing for an icon; other wise you'll break the path that the icon is pointing to!
