    Internet Explorer 11 Icon Unremovable

As stated in the title, I have a internet explorer 11 icon my desktop that can't be removed, I've also tried uninstalling internet explorer 11 entirely however the icon remains but is unusable.

I've tried using Antivirus TotalAV to scan my computer but it didnt seem to show any results I was hoping if anybody could provide me with some assistance in removing this icon which appeared out of nowhere suddenly on my desktop.Internet Explorer 11 Icon Unremovable-screenshot-119-.png

This newsletter is at least 21 years old and many things have changed, naturally. Thus the settings stated in the article isn't there anymore.

    Welcome to Ten Forums.

The correct way to 'remove' Internet Explorer is to turn it off in Windows Features. As oscer1 says, you don't want to unistall it completely by any other means as parts of it are still required by Windows.

One user reported that deliberately trying to add the IE icon to the Desktop then deliberately removing it solved the problem

Attempted the link stated by oscer1 but it didnt seem to work, also disabled IE 11 from features but it didnt work either.

Adding/Removing the IE didnt work either. I can only conclude that there's a very deep virus hidden in my computer or the IE icon is simply a fake also I've taken a screenshot of the options I'm given when I try to right click the "IE" iconInternet Explorer 11 Icon Unremovable-screenshot-121-.png

Try process explorer Process Explorer - Windows Sysinternals | Microsoft Docs and the target icon over it for info. You could also try removing in safe mode.

The lack of a 'Properties' option is very suspicious. Try a scan with ADWCleaner, and a Defender Offline scan.
