Thank you all for your valued input.
One setting completely missed my eye.
The Sign-In Preferences change allowed me to select either of my Hotmail addresses to be used to sign-in. Its found by going to: Your Info > Contact Info > Manage This Email Address > Sign-In Preferences and then selecting (dot) the email address.
I found that both Hotmail addresses were not selected.
I made the sign-in preference selection for one of the Hotmail addresses. After logging out and signing back in with a Hotmail address I selected, I could successfully sign-in to Outlook.com
This is making more sense now but this is also embarrassing
I probably should consider an eye doctor appointment or something
I'm glad you found it, and don't worry about missing it, we've all missed plenty of things that throw us in circles.
When MS first started webmail, when I signed up, I got a sdowxxxxx@msn.com account in that type format, that has worked through Hotmail and now outlook.
Anyone else have a msn.com on the end of their email?

My Windows 10 account is somehow tied to a hotmail account I don't remember creating. Is there any way I can turn it into a local account? I don't really want it to be connected
