    Windows Live Mail Question

A couple of weeks ago my Yahoo emails coming into my Windows Live Mail 2011 suddenly stopped coming in and gives me an error message. The error message was the pop-up box saying the password is incorrect. I hadnt changed the password prior to the fault cropping up.

I have two email accounts on my Live Mail, the Yahoo one ( POP3), and my own personal one (IMAP), the IMAP account continues to work fine.

Im using Windows 10 on a Dell PC.

Both have been working perfectly until now.

Ive since changed the passwords, no good...deleted and re-installed the Yahoo account numerous times... no good..Ive checked and double checked all the settings for the Yahoo account and they are as they should be. If I log into Yahoo Mail.co.uk online then everything's fine, its in Windows Live Mail where the problem is. I can also access the accounts on my smart phone too.

Since then Ive introduced Thunderbird to my computer and I can access both accounts as normal. Im not keen on Thunderbird though and want to resume with Live Mail, but am completely stumped for a solution to this problem.

    Hope someone can help

Windows Live Mail (part of essentials suite) is very old email client and is no longer supported:
We're no longer offering the Windows Essentials 2012 suite for download, but if you already have it installed, it will continue to work as it does today. It reached end of support on January 10, 2017, and it isn't available in Windows 10.

Windows 10 offers it's own built in email client as a store app which at least for me looks very good, no need to install any other mail client unless you seek specific features.

More people may be able to help because everybody has W10 email client so it's easier for them to provide client setup steps.

When I used WLM 2012 with two UK Yahoo Email addresses neither could be setup with IMAP, they had to remain as POP.
That is not working perfectly in todays world.

Those same two Accounts work fine in the Windows 10 Email App with IMAP, and four others have done so for the last 5 years.

Back then had several Email clients installed to specifically move away from WLM 2012. Still looking, but the default Windows 10 App does work.

Yahoo utilise 2-step authentication so the account may require an app specific password.

To get the app specific password mentioned by Basted, do this:
Go to yahoo.com and sign in.
Click on your name (left of the mail icon)
A menu appears, click on Settings
At the next screen click on Account Security on the left side of the screen
Way on the bottom it says : Manage app passwords
At the next popup click on select your app.
WLM is not mentioned, so click on “other app”
Enter WLM and then click on “Generate”
It will give you a new “password” that you have to use when you log on to yahoo with WLM
    Copy and paste into WLM
