Need to remove a Firefox... "improvement"

I run FF 86.0.1 (Windows 10), as a windows, rather than full screen.
Occasionally, a link I click on at some site generates a smaller windows saying...

"We're having trouble reaching that site".

This new windows is smaller than the FF window I run, and seems to be centered behind the larger main FF window.

Mozilla, in it's infinite wisdom has decided that since I can't SEE this new smaller window, that they would "notify" me of it's existence, down by the system clock.

This aggravates my OCD. This seems to have "started" rather recently. Maybe with version 86.0?

In the past, when I would get these "We're having trouble reaching that site", secondary windows, they would be in "front" of the main window I have open... so there was no "notification" down by the windows clock.

Is there a setting in Windows 10 or Firefox, to go back to the sane way.... of showing the smaller window in front of the main FF window, instead of having to open a teeny 3rd notification window down by the system clock?

    /edit

I don't use any addons, nor do I want to.

When I move the main FF window, so I can SEE the hidden popup window... the notification window goes away. The hidden popup window used to be "always on top", and didn't NEED a notification window down by the system clock. I would like to get that much more efficient method... back.

I've tried every setting in Options, that I think might be relevant. I also tried every Windows 10 setting in Notifications, and Focus Assist. I've restored from full OS image backups, back two weeks at least, so I don't think it's Windows or any Windows Updates.

I'm guessing, it's gonna be an about:config setting?

    Try setting browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction to 0

Turn off notifications from Firefox in Settings.

    LOL.

Side Note... I already checked the FF Notifications setting...as well as the Windows ones.
This just started sometime in the last 3-4 weeks.

I'm guessing Mozilla decided to change the browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction setting to 2
    I know I didn't change it. :/

Setting it to zero...puts things back the way they used to be... ya know... functioning.

    /edit

Sometimes late at night, when stuff like this happens... I wonder wth thinks this stuff up.

Someone actually thought up, and got approved, that having a popup window always on top was a bad thing.
So they make another popup, letting you know the 1st popup has been changed to always on the bottom.

    It boggles the imagination.

Another one to try is about:config then flip in search and once list is populated change the value of 'dom.disable_window_flip' to false

I'm sure that's what happened. Like I said... I sure as heck didn't change it. LOL

Probably some whiners with smart phones. With the popup window always on top, they couldn't see anything.
I have no problem with Mozilla doing things like that.
But if they're going to, they should make FF "aware" of what kind of device it's installed on.

Ah, I'm on a PC... no need to put those popups always on the bottom.
Or... put them always on the bottom and off to the side a bit..so it can be seen, w/o having to have another popup.

That edit worked, BUT, now every time I click a link that opens a new window... it's a full size tab instead.

    Didn't work.

Ok... @Edwin 's tweak got rid of the teeny popup in the lower right, by changing the hidden popup window (dotted lines) to a tab instead of a window.
However.. what I want to do is not change the hidden window to a tab, but leave it as a window, but have it appear on TOP of the main window like it used to.

The teeny popup in the lower right ONLY appears, because the main popup window (dotted line) is "behind" the main window. Those popups used to be in "front" of the main window.

IF it was still in front of the main window, then I wouldn't be getting the teeny popup in the lower right.

The reason I want to "retain" having the hidden popup, out if "front" of the main window is two fold.
    1. To get rid of the teeny popup in the lower right.
    2. So "good popup" windows like say the attachment window on this forum... are in their own window and in front of the main window.

With Edwin's edit, whenever I open attachments on TF, I get it on a browser sized tab, instead of in a smaller window of it;s own.

Here's an example. Attachments on this forum are what I consider a good popup window.
When I click on Attachments up above my post... this is what I see with...

    browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction set to "2"

Need to remove a Firefox... "improvement"-image1.png

Now with browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction set to zero, I see this when I click on Attachments.
It open attachments in a "new" tab at the full size of my browser window.

    ...continued on next post.
