    Firefox fonts suddenly "broken"

After my wife did a Microsoft update this morning, she said that all the fonts in her Firefox browser now appear "broken," instead of "solid." I also noticed that the Windows buttons on the top right of the Firefox window also have some lines missing.

There are no issues with fonts in Edge or Windows, or any Windows application.

I tried to restore the Firefox profile from last night (last backup), but that didn't fix the issue. I played around with the font selection settings, but was unable to change from the default font to any other.

A Google search didn't turn up anything useful.

    Any suggestions?

Well, it would help if we knew which update(s), what hardware, etc.
I would assume it/they either borked FF or the vid card driver.

I guess, if it was me, I'd redo the vid card driver, first.
Windows Update messes with vid card drivers, fairly often. FF, not so much.

    DDU Instructions - Nvidia
    1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
    2. Get the Standard/Game Ready vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: Advanced Driver Search | NVIDIA ...save this to your desktop.
    Unhook the internet completely.
    3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
    4. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the Nvidia driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.
    Rehook the internet.

    DDU Instructions - AMD
    1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
    2. Get your vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download ...save this to your desktop.
    Unhook the internet completely.
    3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
    4. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the AMD driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.
    Rehook the internet.

Sorry for the lack of detail. The system is a laptop, Lenovo 730 running Win 10 64 Home.

I'm going to print out your instructions and follow them. Then I'll post again. I appreciate your response.

Try settting gfx.direct2d.disabled to true in about:config

    Firefox fonts suddenly "broken"-advanced-preferences.jpg

Then relaunch. If no change - revert the setting.

Update. Firefox was already at 86.01

Here is the system information I omitted in earlier posts. System is Lenovo 730 laptop, with Intel CPU 8550U and Intel UHD 620 graphics. Display driver was 25.20.100.6576.

First I downloaded a driver directly from Intel, but that driver would not install because it wasn't authorized for my system. Then I downloaded driver 26.20.100.6913 from the Lenovo website.

I tried to simply install the new driver directly over the old one. That did not fix the browser problem. Then I followed the instuctions for running DDU. After running DDU and installing the Lenovo driver, the browser problem was fixed. So thank you to all who posted in this thread.

DDU is now part of my standard toolkit.

Glad to hear that's fixed. DDU does do a good deep down cleaning. Smart to keep it in the ole toolkit........
