How to restore Win10 20H2 Firefox profile from Ubuntu backup

I'm a former Windows user (12 years with Ubuntu) thinking about migrating back to Win10. I have my Firefox default- release profile backed up daily on a usb hard drive. I've tried copying the contents of my profile to users/Lou/appdata/mozilla/xxxxxxxx.default-release with no joy at all. Obviously, not the right way to go - will someone tell me where I'm going wrong? TIA for any help...

I believe the path you should copy to is:

    C:\Users\Lou\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default-release

please see restoring to different location
Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles | Firefox Help

IF you have followed that procedure and it did not work, then you may have to delete the profile on 10 and create new profile - which will then be default profile and copy from backup to there. Is there any chance you are ONLY merely pasting the folder to there. - please see guide.

I do not use Firefox any longer and have not done for sometime, especially on 10 as I am firmly committed to Edge which of course is Chrome.

I did use Firefox in days gone by and moved it from Mint to 8.1 and did not have a problem

I presume the Ubuntu is not running still with 10 on dual boot, or will remain on another computer if it is - sync may be a way forward

Sync and save | Firefox Help

I cannot help directly with Sync as I have not used it.

I am just slightly confused as to if you NOW have 10

and still have Firefox on Ubuntu etc.

No, not dual boot - the Linux machine is a totally different laptop. I am generally distrustful of Mozilla instructions as they are frequently out of date or not specifically about my problem.

I looked up the appdata/roaming thing and am not totally sure I understand the idea behind it (the concept of calling it "roaming") but I'll give it a try and see what happens.

    Thanks for the replies...

It seemed the best way although as I said I have not used it.

Crewe - knew it well in the 60/70 era. How does your local time come to be 1711
