Setting your connection(s) as metered disables automatic downloading of most (but certainly not all) Windows updates. Microsoft has promised not to abuse this.

As for KB4601050, unlike various many of the .NET patches that came before it, it actually isn't half bad. But, even if we can assume that, for you, it causes more problems than it solves in spite of that, then you still don't need Windows Update MiniTool (WUMT) to be able to hide it─even though you could use that.

Use whatever it is that you see fit. Personally, I, can't be bothered anymore with trying to figure out whether an issue with Windows Update was caused by Windows 10 or was caused by using a 3rd party program the purpose of which is to interfere with Windows Update: been there, done that.

I have feeling they were hidden last time I checked. Now I hide them and they were visible! What does hidden do? Since I activated metered connection, so nothing should install automatically anyways! This update is pending restart, I would install it anyways, so I don't care. Just don't want this happening for all future updates...

Wait will hidden updates be found by Windows Update then?

BTW downloaded minitool separately, now updates "I don't want" are hidden.

If that doesn't automatically install every update I Am willing to take that risk.. Yea I check askwoody. Problem is I didn't update some time now, It would download everything if I let it. Unless I hide updates manually with minitool perhaps.

Windows Update will not installed the updates already hidden via Windows Update MiniTool. I have used WUMT to hide a number of updates, and Windows Update shows the following:

In matter of speaking I did not... So it is set to metered only now. I set default and Ethernet to 2, so if I use VPN it won't download updates - I hope so! As there is only default, or ethernet as a relevant entry. I suppose if you set Ethernet it would set VPN to metered also, but not sure...

I have never used VPN, and updates have not been downloaded/installed automatically.

On a metered connection, Windows 10 almost never automatically downloads an update before you allow it to do so. The only kind of updates that it will download automatically over a metered connection without asking your permission are critical emergency patches that are so urgent in fact, you would be leaving the door wide open for hackers if you decided not to install them immediately, which would be catastrophic, as there exist multiple hacker groups who hunt for vulnerable computers on the internet─to make these computers part of their botnet hacker infrastructure that enables these criminals to stay ahead of legal investigators, or the computer forensics experts who work for the justice department. (BTW, purposely leaving your online computer unprotected against hackers on the internet also is punishable by law.)

Here is a tutorial on how to hide an update (after you have verified that the update is what's responsible for causing a problem on your computer).

If a hardware manufacturer keeps consistently failing to provide adequate assistance with attempting to resolve a hardware problem related to the device driver software that they deliver and you kept asking them politely after you have given them a decent enough amount of patience, then I recommend to be vocal about it on hardware oriented forum websites and social media channels. In the most civil of manners, let them know first what bothers you, and, only if they really don't want to listen, then contribute arduously to killing their rep so more people will stop buying their products.

Yea makes sense, if it is only critical updates it should be fine. And I have backups, just in case.

Thank you for reminding me In matter of fact, I just updated recently and it worked! I disabled Edge using gpedit.msc and scheduled tasks + services and I didn't see it running since, I will double check yet!

I just downloaded that and run updates since askwoody was only defcon 4 and I have no new updates currently. I will hide updates using minitool, in case defon will be bad!
