Why worry about event viewer if it's logging errors that don't matter?

FYI: I know nothing about textinputhost.exe or why you'd want to kill it. That one could be a problem i guess as I read it is responsible for several things.

    Test notepad. Pretty simple.

Using IFEO to pass to debugger just tells windows to launch whatever process is specified in place of the process that tries to run so in the case of MicrosftEdgeUpdate.exe it never actually gets to run.
Googling EV errors is difficult, most of the time nothing is even found. That is the problem, I don't know, if this particular error matters!

I don't need to test notepad, I know what this does... I meant, if it is safe to do. But if you don't know. I will do backup and see, if there will be any errors.

Here's another example of getting one program to run in place of another.

Replacing Notepad with Notepad++ in Windows - gHacks Tech News

So in this case registry instructs notepad++ to run in place of notepad.

Well I've just found out that some bright spark has written a program to block procceses via IFEO.

GitHub - guffre/processblocker: Blocks processes and executables from running on Windows

EDIT. I can't figure out how to use it.

I don't get it. What would be need to install this program, if taskkill accomplishes the same!

Just an example as you seem to be concerned that the blocked executable actually runs when in fact it does not.

Still this is starting taskkill, that's what I was afraid of! I would like to prevent Edge process startup without starting any other process. So what about denying all its permissions, safe or no?

So I found out EdgeUpdate.exe is starting even with disabled Windows Updates. Gonna deny its security rights. Problem is how to update Edge then? I don't want to even launch it.
If you never want to open Edge, but you want to keep it updated, why do you want to disable EdgeUpdate?

Maybe I leave edge unblocked and will update Edge from inside of Edge manually... Will see yet, if it is starting randomly...
If you want to disable automatic updates and do it manually, why do you think Edge may start randomly?

I just posted that I monitored process launch... It still starts EdgeUpdateService, or how it calls...

Goal: disable Edge without starting anything else! So is denying permissions for edge, edgeupdate and what not safe? That's all. Thanks!

Even denying permissions, or renaming it could be still called. Best way would be to prevent system even from calling it. But so far didn't see that solution. It is possible, it would require changes on executive level.

    @empleat

Why not using feedback app in Windows, and asking MS to implement updating edge as part of Windows update?
MS edge is part of OS anyway, I'm sure they would consider your request.

Yes; because if you want to keep Edge updated, that's exactly what EdgeUpdate is for (especially if you never want to open Edge).

I still don't understand why you fear that Edge may start randomly. Have you ever heard of any browser doing that for anyone?
