That's not what I said. Instead, Windows Update occasionally replaces an old update with a new version of it that uses the same exact KB number. WUMT does not do this, which means you'll end up having missed the new update. And that is very much regardless of whoever it was who told you not to listen.
WUMT certainly finds new updates regardless of the groundless allegations.
Uhm this is a bit off topic but there is a way with group policy. There is a policy for windows update that goes like "don't include driver updates" for windows update. If you enable this policy and reboot, boom, no more subtle driver updates.
This only applies to windows 10 pro, education, enterprise and the other higher end offerings. It does not work on windows 10 home since that one doesn't have group policy editor. I'm afraid you will have to resort to half baked hacks and workarounds if you want to prevent driver updates.
And for manually updating Microsoft Edge, as I suggested a few pages back, just use ninite.com
Create an updater app with it and set it to auto launch as often as you want it. It is really lightweight, free and pulls updates directly from the developer's distribution channel, in this case, from Microsoft.
Driver updates have not been installed automatically on my Windows Home, which has no Group Policy Editor.
I use metered connections. I cannot see such a setting.
Perhaps a new option has been added into the new version, which is different from my old version, which has been stopped from being automatically updated to the new version, which could have a new option that is absent from my old version, which is not the same as the new version, which should have been installed on Windows as long as automatic updates have not been disabled.
