    Does Microsoft Edge actually suck?

So there are a lot of rumors like "Edge sucks". I personally don't use edge but if it is a browser I would use it. I like using Opera GX as I think its a great browser. Is edge better?

    Welcome to Ten Forums,

What you need to know is that there are two browsers that have had the name 'Edge'. The one you have in your 20H2 is the new Edge that is based on the Chromium project (as is your Opera GX).

The original Edge (now referred to as 'Legacy Edge') was launched with in the original release of Windows 10. Its design remit was to be fast and lean, but came in for a lot of criticism as being virtually devoid of any useful features. Its code name while in development was, after all, 'Spartan'. That one could be said to 'suck', it was fast but something of a 'feature-free zone'.

Microsoft tried to push it as 'the browser to use' but gave up and redesigned it from scratch using Chromium. As a general browser it's now on a par with its peers, the likes of Chrome or Firefox. But if gaming is your thing, then your Opera GX is said to be specifically tuned for gaming so you'll probably want to keep using it.

Hi! I have, Windows Version Number: 20H2 . Have used Chrome on Windows 7 and Chromium on Kubuntu 20.04 linux both Browsers seemed to run at the same speed, plus bookmarks, passwords etc... synced. Edge runs slow on my Windows 10 machine, is it all the stuff that microsoft has added ?

Don't go by rumours try it out yourself. I've been using it since it's release and I'm very pleased with it.

@BartyFark In fact MS have removed a lot of Google's stuff and I find it faster than Chrome. Would be helpful to know your hardware, in particular your OS drive.

Exactly, do not go by others, try it for yourself (same as for most things).

    Slow edge

Have used it on Windows10 pro 20H2, os build 19042.804, windows feature pack 120.2212.5510, 64 bit os, 64 bit processor, said beforeIntel core i5-4670-cpu @3.40 Ghz 3.40 Ghz, 8.00 Gb memory. Edge runs slow as I said before.
Chrome and Firefox both ran better.

    • Edge is sluggish,
    • MS puts too much bloat in it,
    • Can't sign in with a Google account,
    • No need for it to be an integral part of the OS!

I find Edge pretty fast but have had to turn off these new settings I personally dislike.

Oh, it definitely is a browser. Being on Windows 20H2, that should be reasonably obvious.

Is it better than Opera GX? No idea. I know it's better than IE used to be, but I still prefer FF.

Another one for seeing for yourself and not believing the noise.
