    Edge Download and Show PDFs

So I have Edge on two machines and the browsers are synched to the same account. On one I can click on a PDF link and it automatically downloads and shows up on my PDF viewer. On the other it will download then show an "Open file" link that I have to click on manually to move it into the PDF viewer. Both browsers report the same version number: 88.0.705.74

Any idea how to make the second machine work like the first? So far as I've been able to find, their settings are both the same. And if I change a setting on one it seems to flow through the synch into the other browser anyhow. Yet apparently something is different.

    Thanks.

Might try updating both, I just did but seemed to take a bit longer than previously.

If Cookies and site permissions, PDF documents, Always open PDF documents externally is switched off, then Edge will open the document automatically. But if that is switched on, then Edge will prompt to save the file.

All I can say is that is turned on in both browsers. One works as I want and the other "almost" does.

Thanks for the suggestion. I always assume everything is up to date, but sometimes not. Anyhow, they're both at that .81 level now but they still act slightly differently.

The only difference I'm aware of is that the computer that works has Win 10 Home on it while the other has Pro. Why that should impact the browser behavior though I have no idea.

Oh, I stumbled into a solution.
    1. Turn on the "always ask what to do with each download".
    2. Then download a PDF which shows up in the bar at the bottom.
    3. Click on the three dots by it and tell it to open the file with the system program and it opens in my PDF reader.
    4. Turn back off the "always ask what to do with each download" setting.

And it seems to have permanently saved that setting.
