Edge showing red arrow over Settings three dots

Just noticed that in my Edge there is a red up arrow over the three dots to open the setting menu and when I click on the three dots, at the top it states Update Now. I verified it is not a new version of Edge. Anyone seeing this and what we are updating?

Yes I have seen it on all my versions of edge. One said it was a security update of some sort. Not finding any more info though.

Same here on both our machines. A little disconcerting when I saw it.

Maybe it is testing a new update delivery feature. Previously I noticed Edge seemed to always update when I opened settings which was a bit to much of a coincidence that an update should just happen to be available at that instant.

I've noticed that on all my laptops today. The strange thing is, after updating, the version number does not change, and the control panel does not reflect this weird update either. It remains on 88.0.705.63, and shows the last installation was 5 days ago... to that version. Same on all my machines. I even wondered if it was something nefarious, but glad to see it's not just me or my network!

I have the same question! I am attaching screenshots of the arrow.

Is this a new Edge functionality or some kind of malware?

I don’t think it’s malware as it seems widespread. Although I did initially worry it was something sinister. Would be nice if MS gave a heads up or explanation

Started my system this morning and surprise...no longer there!! I did not click the Update Now so interesting to see if this is just some new feature Microsoft is experimenting with.

Me too! In my main PC the arrow disappeared without doing anything by my side (never pressed it). In my secondary Win 10 PC the arrow still exists...

EDIT: In my main PC I went to Help and feedback -> About Microsoft Edge and Edge started to update itself. Version before the update was 88.0.705.63 and after the update is 88.0.705.68. Yesterday, when I checked (with the red arrow on its place), there was not any updates available...
