Edge Updater runs even with the Task disabled

    Fresh install of Windows 10 20H2 v2.
I disabled all three default scheduled tasks (two for Edge and one for OneDrive).

But even after restarting, Edge Update (MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe) still runs sometimes.

Can it be disabled in some other way or is this just another Microsoft thing (either bug or intended behavior)?

I don't actually use it myself.

Perhaps if you stop it launching to start with it will not check for updates . . .

Here is an excellent post from @TairikuOkami . . .

    I hope this helps.

Make sure this is off:Edge Updater runs even with the Task disabled-image.png

    EDIT:
Sorry I don't think that's it. Re-reading your post I think the update checker will alway run. Unless you can disable it from the Task Manager's Startup tab?

@Paul Black: That GP setting didn't help, but Edge wasn't auto-starting anyway, just the updater. I didn't try that other solution (deleting the EdgeUpdate folder), I suppose it might work.

But I saw that Chromium Edge can be uninstalled, so I did that and that's good enough for now.

Still, if anyone finds a "clean" way to stop the updater they can post it.

@Bobby Phoenix: It's not in the Task Manager's Startup tab.

You've already uninstalled Edgium, but these may have been what you were looking for..... Task Scheduled Entries. Right click the entries and Disable each.

It's very simple, from time to time, when Edge is manually updated, minor or major version, or even after a servicing stack update, those task scheduler settings are reverted to default from Microsoft.
All you need to do is after each one of the above happens, you go to Services and disable all Edge services, and disable again the Edge related tasks in Task Scheduler.
This gives you peace for a few days or weeks and so on...
It should not happen in first place, but... it's Microsoft.
    Hope this helps.
P.S. I'm checking every few days those settings on my systems and it seems to work, but it's annoying.

Guys, please read the first post again. I disabled the scheduled tasks, it's the first thing I did. The updater was running while they were disabled.
I also disabled at least one Edge-related service--the one that was set to automatic and was running--but that didn't help either.

Here is a small app that will block Edge all together... (Edge Blocker v1.6)

I think that the updater also runs in order to update Edge components and extensions.
If you do not want it to run at all the you could kill it with post #4 here:
How Can I Stop Microsoft Edge from Updating - Windows 10 Forums (tenforums.com)
but then it will be more time consuming to update Edge.

Where did you see that it was running?
