    Get rid of Twitter etc irritating Side panel

    Hi folks

    I hate this but loads of sites seem to have that irritating Twitter,.Facebook etc sidepanel - and sometimes it annoyingly covers parts of text one is trying to read.

    Is there anyway to disable it or at least move the wretched thing out of the way.

    example of what I mean here's the wretched sidepanel. (I'm using Firefox BTW)

    I'm sure there must be some way of inhibiting this panel as it sometimes appears a little bit later than after the web site home page appears.

    Cheers

    @jimbo45
    check all of your extensions. There may be one you need to remove.

    I don't think its down to extensions - I have none, and still have that issue. I think you are fighting the web page developers, Jimbo. They obviously think you want their carefully chosen (?) words obscured by buttons you have no intention of clicking. If I care enough about the page, I adjust the width until the spurious icons shift into unused space - and if they won't, I often give up on the page. Same with intrusive video-advert boxes - some pages are not meant to be viewed by the likes of me.

    I think some of them get their ideas from pages like this:
    Where to Put Social Media Icons on Your Website - Checkfront
    but then fail to read the bit which says: "If you use a floating social media bar, make sure it doesn’t float on top of your content and take away from your page’s readability."
