set up?

    Yes, the Gmail app is acting basically as a desktop email client.
    But I am not sure, how to set it up to handle mailto links.

    I suspect you got this notice...

    ... trying to invoke Send to > Mail recipient

    eM Client is the only app I know of that will set that all up for you automatically!
