Recover Windows Live Emails after Recent Change to Windows Essential

In Windows 10, I was using Windows Live Mail for many years, and decided it was time to change, since WLM is being phased out by Microsoft. I had many emails stored in files under headings in WLM, but I thought that these would be transferred to the new Email for Windows Essential, but there was no warning of losing them. I want to restore or find out where my WLM filed emails are located, or have they been deleted when upgrading ?. Can anyone help ?

    Thanks in anticipation

Sign into the same account on the web, all your stuff should be there, provided it was all archived properly.

Sorry Edwin, would the archive be automatically carried out ?. What account do you mean ?, the old WLM ? and what would be the sign in address to the web ?

You have to move the Emails stored in headings in WLM to one of your Email Accounts.

In that chosen Email Account you have to create the same Folders and manually select the Emails and copy them across.
So all those locally stored Emails are now in an Email Account server.

Then check that has been done with your new Email client also setup with that Account.

Once that has all been done then you can remove WLM without loosing anything.
WLM 2012 was phased out in 2016. Replaced by The Windows 8/10 Mail App.

I don't understand what email program or system you have switched to. What are you now running, and what did you do to link it to your old WLM emails?

If you’ve moved from Live Mail to Windows Mail then you just need to add each account, sign in & the emails should be there if you’ve used imap previously. If the emails are under Storage folders then these will not transfer so you should move these emails to a specific account.
Live Mail does still work with Windows 10 & it would be easy to transfer all emails & accounts from the old PC to a new on (providing you can either access the old PC or you have a backup of the Live Essentials/Mail folder).

I haven't changed the PC, only the email from Windows Live Mail to that Windows mail under Windows Essential. I didn't back up the old emails that were stored under the former WLM, so I think that's where I went wrong. I had expected the old emails to be still available under the new Windows Mail. I attach a screen print of the current Windows Mail system I am using.

Thanks for the help from members.

The email account needs to be set to download all mails, the normal setting is the last 30 days.
Was the account under Live Mail set to imap or pop?
Have you uninstalled Live Essentials? Have you checked to see if the Mail folder is still shown?
C:\Users\logon\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ the Live Mail folder should show here.

It depends how you setup your email client.

When you originally setup your email client years ago, you can pick keeping the email in the email server and your pc syncs from that server and download a copy to your pc. That's how most webmail works (i.e. GMail, Yahoo...). In that case, you just need to adjust the sync period to "anytime" in your email client to pull all your old emails back to your pc.

But there is an older way to sync email. When you download your email from the email server, the server automatically deletes its copy. Then you have to save backups of your email from your pc --- which you didn't do. Your screenshot doesn't look like you are using GMail or Yahoo type of email service.
