Windows Live Mail Not Linking to Edge, Stalls Out

I have a weird problem using Windows Live Mail 2012 (WLM) to link to a URL from a message. Linking works from my other e-mails routines like Gmal, Yahoo, Outlook, etc, but when I click a link in WLM it opens Edge (Version 87.0.664.47) then stalls out. The link address shows in the address bar and if I have Edge open at the time the link works. Cut&paste works too. It worked fine before the 20H2 update. Anyone else have this problem? Yeah, I know M$ wants us to use another e-mail program, but I like WLM.

BTW, I read about a million cures for this problem and none worked. You know the drill......

Have you reset Edge to default?
Is Edge set as the default browser?
    Is Edge up to date?
Have you tried repairing Windows Live Essentials?

Do you have installed a different browser (non Microsoft) which you can set as default & try with that? This will rule out either Mail or the browser as the problem.
I have WLMail but I have not noticed that problem but will check.

I just checked it with Chrome and the link works fine; so it's something between WLM and Edge. It works okay with my desktop and my wife's Dell laptop, so something is a miss in my Dell laptop. Now how do I isolate it?

What is weird is that if Edge is up and running and I click the WLM link it works fine. If Edge is of it brings up a weird Edge page and locks up! That should be a big clue but just does not ring a bell.

Which Windows build is your Wife’s PC running?
Does the problem affect all accounts under Live Mail?
The problem does seem to be Edge but I can’t think what.

She is running 1909 because, you guessed it, hers will not update to 2004. You see, it was just this year, the dreaded 2020, that we started having all these problems. Free Windows you see. I just gave up trying to update her Dell (same as mine) PC and now I will just change my method of transferring URL links. Plus I replaced my keyboard with an el-cheap-o Chinese POS and I think I'll repair my original glitchy one. They make crap in China.

    Hi,
You try unblocking and mounting 2004 or 2009/ 20h2 iso.

I think so. At my age things get under my skin so it is easy to walk away. It must be some driver, BIOS or other problem that is too much work so she can live with 1909. Thanks.
