Please tell me what I must do to remove the Temperature displayed in the upper left of the window. It just started to show up today. Thank you I don't know where to find the windows version number but it is the latest.
Click on the Settings wheel, select custom and deselect "Show greetings".
Not sure if this is what you want...,guessing from your description.

Thank you for responding but that does not work. I think the 9 dots and the settings wheel are screwed up. When I click on the 9 dots, I get programs and the settings wheel give me page layout.
But yes, your suggestion is what I was look for.
How do I fix the other problems?

Good question, at first this was not present but since most people turned off browser bloatware it appears Microsoft is not happy with that so from time to time we can expect more and more forced features.
But sooner or later this will result in loss of popularity as it was the case many times over.
I actually like the temperature and weather conditions there, it seems to be helpful.

Never mind, I figured out that users have to pay with their personal data in order to turn off annoyances:
Change New Tab Page Layout and Background in Microsoft Edge ChromiumThe Show greeting setting will only be available if you are signed in to Microsoft Edge.
