How Can I Stop Microsoft Edge from Updating

I updated my computer to windows 10 20H2, see the new chromium edge browser, and it looks alright, but im sticking with firefox until I absolutely need to use edge for whatever reason. Thing is: its update behavior of course resembles google chrome, and I never managed to get chrome to update when I WANTED IT TO, not when it took any chance of manual-only checking away from me

I want to know, if there's a GPO flag or registry value or whatever, that I can set that will prevent edge from checking for updates period, unless I want to update it myself.

I don't actually use it myself.

Just a thought though. Perhaps if you stop it launching to start with it won't check for updates . . .

=> Enable or Disable Microsoft Edge Pre-launching in Windows 10

    I hope this helps.

    Code:
    taskkill /im MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe /f
    rd "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate" /s /q
This will prevent Edge from auto-updating. To update it manually, you will need to download Edge setup.

need to also delete the following registry keys in RegEdit (along with deleting the EdgeUpdate files and tasks):

    \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\edgeupdate
    \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\edgeupdatem

I anticipate 2 issues coming, one is that some of the things Microsoft is doing on their own sites has to do with Internet Explorer going away and many sites will be having to update their code to open Edge from their links instead of IE and the other is that one of the twice-yearly Version Upgrades will take out customizations, restore the defaults.

Even the monthly "security" updates are already doing that. If you uninstall Chromium Edge, the December cumulative update installs it again.
There's a registry tweak which supposedly stops that ("DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium"), but I tried it and it doesn't work. EDIT: I've read the fine print now and apparently that setting is officially ignored in 20H2.

Two days ago, I clean installed 20H2 and disabled auto-updates. Windows Update MiniTool found no update for Edge as shown below:

Minutes ago, I opened Edge, went to "Help and feedback", and clicked on "About Microsoft Edge". Then, it started updating as shown below:

Run the following commands via Windows PowerShell (Admin).

    Schtasks /Change /Disable /Tn "MicrosoftEdgeUpdateTaskMachineCore"
    Schtasks /Change /Disable /Tn "MicrosoftEdgeUpdateTaskMachineUA"

They will disable the scheduled tasks.
