One crazy thought I keep having is whether this could be an ISP issue. I know web pages often pull data from different sources and so I wonder if some service that is required for UK spell checking is not available via my ISP (which is BT).

Sound a bit far out I know but stranger things have happened.

After finding your thread I thought I would register to TenForums to let you know you don't seem to be the only one with the issue.

I am part of an IT team and have had 2 customers experience this, both use Windows 10 2004 or 20H2, Outlook Web, Edge etc.

One of the individuals who had the issue said it resolved itself after a week or so (maybe an update from Microsoft fixed it or maybe it is an ISP related issue?)

However one of them still has the issue, as a work around I installed an extension for Edge to allow for spell checking which seems to work fine, not sure if that might be of any help for you?

If I hear anything further I will post back otherwise it would be nice to know what is causing the problem!

Many thanks for your input and suggestion on this and my apologies for not replying sooner...

So this is very interesting indeed as this is the first I have seen of anyone else having a similar issue.

As to a resolution, well I'm not really any further along if I'm honest. Nothing has changed and the UK spell check is still broken but switching to USA English in Outlooks settings still works for some reason. It is not even exclusively a W10 issue as the problem occurs in W8.1 running either the public release version of Edge or the developer Beta Edge Dev build.

I have kept coming back to the problem hoping for some inspiration somewhere but its not happened yet. I even posted about the problem on BT's own help forums but there have been no replies there.

Obviously once I hear anything or crack it (which isn't happening at the moment) then I'll update this thread.

I've kept looking for clues on this and drawn a blank, however today and it is working. I have made no changes whatsoever, the only variable being my BT (British Telecom) which has firmware that does regular 7 day soft restarts for some reason. It's a well known 'feature' of the firmware for some reason.

Anyhow today and all is working with regard to the spell checker. So no real answers on this one. I did try different DNS services and so on while troubleshooting and I'm pretty sure at least one other Hub restart would have happened since I began all this.

Glad it's worked out at last.

Thanks I wish now I had manually restarted the Hub 6 router. I think it does grab a different IP address when it does these restarts and so maybe there was some weird routing issue that the spell checker relied on and that was not available.

    All guesswork now though.
