    Browsers Won't Play Video

A Dell Optiplex 760 with 4GB of RAM (Acer AX1430G-UW30P), AMD E-450 APU processor. Tower was recently upgraded to W10 from W7. It currently has Chrome (default), Firefox and Edge.

Subscribed to MrFood.com to receive recipes. Most of the recipes have an accompanying 2 minute video which only plays in Firefox. The buffering is so bad that it won't really play in Chrome or Edge (or IE11). Whatever browser I attempt to use results in Task Manager displaying CPU usage upwards of 95%. I see the same CPU percentages on this laptop, but the video does play through on Chrome without buffering. This laptop was also upgraded from 7 to 10 and also only has 4GB of memory.

I've run Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner and CCleaner and used Autoruns to remove any Startup nonsense, but nothing really helps.

    Hello @boweasel ,
Can you play YouTube videos from Chrome, Firefox etc? I have a Dell with 4GB RAM, Core 2 Duo which plays videos fine, so there's hope

Can you post a link to something that doesn't play for you please?

I have recently started using Firefox over Chrome on all my PCs because Chrome has started feeling so laggy lately.

I would suggest trying to disable all your add-ons in Chrome to see if that helps.

Also experiment with this setting opposite to what it's currently set to: How to Turn Hardware Acceleration On and Off in Chrome

Your APU is pretty dated. If you right click one of the videos and select 'save video as' then play it without having to stream then it should play ok.

Or just keep using Firefox, which seems to work fine.

Absolutely. Surprised that Firefox uses a little bit less resources.

I just recently stopped using Chrome - have both installed but Firefox feels more responsive to me these days.

Yes, youtube videos play just fine in the browsers without the spike in CPU.
No extensions enabled in Chrome. Here's the video.

Turning Hardware Accelerator off made no appreciable difference.
It's not my PC so I'll have to convince them to use Firefox, which comes on the heels of convincing them to use Chrome instead of Internet Explorer.

PM me a slice of that pie. Played fine here on FF and Chrome on my Dell Core 2 Duo with 4 GB RAM. I would check Task Manager -> Startup tab and disable any non-critical apps you don't need to run at startup, reboot, and try Chrome again. Other than that and previous suggestions, I have no ideas ATM.
