Removing predictive text in Chrome - nothing works. Please help!

    Hello
I have a real problem and I can't understand this (I am elderly but quite tech savvy). I have just moved to Google Chrome from Edge and it is great except for this problem.

I have followed instns to remove predictive text to the letter from this site ie
settings - advance -privacy........but your instns then clearly show a line which offers me the chance to switch it off but, on my Chrome screen in settings/privacy there is nothing like this!

The icon on my desktop shows the Chrome logo and in Control Panel it shows as downloaded - am I not in Chrome? When I click on the icon the screen comes up with GOOGLE search bar in middle but does not mention Chrome.
What am I doing wrong please? I am at my wits end over this. Must be in Chrome surely as when I downloaded it all my old favourites and desktops icons like you tube etc appeared with the Chrome circle.
    Thanks
    Moggie

It seems to be a bug in Chrome. If you search online using "Google chrome predictive text" you will see that others have complained as well.
DISABLE the predictive text inserted into the text box on google.com search box - Google Search Community

    Good luck.

nothing works because as I said when I get to that page under settings - advaced - privacy the page shown is not like you show ie there is no toggle to turn off!

Thanks a lot - have tried everything you suggested but just can't remove the predicted text! Has only happened since I moved to Chrome this week. Before, on Bing I was able to turn it off. I am elderley but usually computer savvy but this has beaten me!

    Thanks anyway

You are right, those old references show old versions of Google Chrome settings which are not in the latest versions.

"GOOGLE search bar in middle but does not mention Chrome."

    That is set by:
    3 dots > Settings > On Start-up >
Select the third option "Open a specific page or set of pages" > 3 dots(more actions) > Edit
Then put in the URL of the site you want, or you could use "about:blank" (minus the quote marks) in which case you get a blank Startup page. > Save.

You still get the Google search bar in the middle on New TABs, I don't know how to change that.

I've been looking around for quite some time and my best solution is to use these two extensions:
EAB Search Manager - Chrome Web Store
History Disabler - Chrome Web Store

Make sure to select the legacy mode to deny any history in real-time. Make sure you clear your past history and cookie. Once this is done, you should not see any Google suggestions--besides their "Chrome:\\setting."
