    URL file not opening correctly

Could someone tell me how to get a .url file to open correctly with a shortcut to chrome.exe instead of just chrome.exe? When I ask for the URL to open (app chosen is shortcut to chrome) I get this in the pic attached. URL file not opening correctly-shortcutchrome.jpg

I need it to open from the shortcut because I added things like this to the shortcut file: --disk-cache-dir="Z:\Temporary Internet Files\Chrome" etc under Properties. Any ideas?

Is it possible to just copy the URL and put the link on your desktop, or save in your favorites? I don't use Chrome browser.... CNN - Breaking News, Latest News and Videos

Thanks for your reply. All of this has to do with Cortana and it has to be in that folder.

    Zeke,

Even if you have added something to the url path [your --disk-cache-dir bit] a url remains usable in the normal way. Adding to its address does not stop it working as any url would.

I'm sorry to be awkward but please would you explain what you want to achieve in different words. I do not understand what you are asking even though I can probably answer given the general subject matter.
    - I don't know what you mean by
    - - " shortcut to chrome.exe instead of just chrome.exe "
    - - " I need to open from the shortcut because ... "
    - - " app chosen is shortcut to chrome "
    - - " it has to be in that folder ".
    - Your diagram of the url contents looks normal.
    - - I normally look at them in Notepad and I do not know how you have opened it for editing within a browser. Have you altered your url file associations***?
    - - I added things like this to the shortcut file: --disk-cache-dir="Z:\Temporary Internet Files\Chrome" - not according to the contents displayed in your diagram.
    - You don't mention which browser is your default.

There is guidance in Create Website Shortcut [for various browsers] - TenForumsTutorials that you might find helpful.

*** A normal url file association appears in Settings, Apps, Default apps, Choose default applications by file type as
    URL file not opening correctly-settings-apps-default-apps-choose-default-applications-file-type.png

User has just moved chrome's cache to another drive as per this post. (vivaldi is a chromium browser)

Always Strict Tracking Prevention in Microsoft Edge Chromium InPrivate

The shortcut used to launch Chrome has been modified. The path looks wrong to me. I don't use chrome but I think that it should be:

To change both User Data and Temp Folder assuming that Temp folder exists on Z.

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" "--user-data-dir=Z:\Temp" "--disk-cache-dir=Z:\Temp"

    To change only User Data:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" "--user-data-dir=Z:\Temp"

    To change only Cache:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" "--disk-cache-dir=Z:\Temp"

Or if Temp folder does not exist on Z

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" "–disk-cache-dir=Z

I should have explained MUCH better, Try3.

I wrote the path wrong here but it's correct in the shortcut, Callender. When I delete "--user-data-dir=Z:\Temp" I still get that screen.

    Works like this for me:
    I say, "Cortana open CNN"
Cortana opens CNN.url file from my computer but I get that screen. I made my computer open the URL through Chrome.exe Shortcut because I want that cache info to be included. Cortana opens a .URL fine when I'm not making my computer open a .URL file through the shortcut but just Chrome.exe. Does that make sense?

Well modifying the shortcut to move cache shouldn't affect how the file is opened. The problem for me is that I will not use Chrome so cannot test.

Also regarding Cortana. I never use it so cannot help with that. I keep it disabled.
