Your Gmail account settings are out of date...

I have started using the Mail app again on my desktop, as Outlook 2016 is so slow. The trouble is, I keep getting the message "your Gmail settings are out of date..." several times per day. I go in and enter my Gmail password but sometimes that only fixes it for 10 minutes!

I think it may be because W10 has the wrong password stored, somewhere, because when I take the "Fix" action it autofills in a password but that is always wrong and I have to put the correct password in. Of course, I cannot tell what that wrong password is.

I have not changed my Gmail password recently and I am not using two factor authentication on that account.

    Can anyone help with this?

    Update

Since I posted I have now realized that I can reveal the password the system offers me to fix my Gmail account. So I can now see it is trying to use the password I use just to log into my local account (ie machine specific, not my Windows account). So all I need to know is how to resolve this conflict, so it uses my Gmail password and not my local login password for Mail!

Does your Google account use 2-step authentication?
If so then the Mail app may require an app specific password.

I am accessing my Gmail via the Mail app on my HP desktop. Also I do not have two factor authentication for it. As I said above, I think the problem is connected to the system trying to use my local login password to try and login to Gmail, but why me having logged in correctly it logs out again within 10 minutes I can't understand.

If you don’t have 2-factor authentication then you have to log in to Google & under security select ‘allow less secure apps to access your account’ or turn 2-factor authentication on & create to app specific password.

In Win 10 Mail delete the Gmail account, and then Add it back in again with the correct password.

Any spurious Gmail ones go to Control Panel > Credential Manager > Web Credentials > Delete incorrect/wrong entries.

If you just have one Gmail account you could of course delete them all before Adding Gmail back in to the Mail App.
