Windows Live Mail will no longer send or receive emails

Since the last automatic update of my Windows 10, my Windows Live Mail no longer works. I get this error message:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Comcast account. An unknown error has occurred.

    Server: 'mail.comcast.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800C013E
    Protocol: POP3
    Port: 995
    Secure(SSL): Yes

I am running Windows Version 2004 (OS Build 19401.450).

    Any help much appreciated!

Run Regedit and go to:Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS LIVE MAIL
and either create or modify the 3 DWORD entries:
RecreateFolderIndex and RecreateStreamIndex and RecreateUIDIndex and set the value to 1
after that WLM will work as before

Thanks very much. I have navigated to the Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS LIVE MAIL folder, but I don't see any of the files you mentioned. Could you tell me what I need to do to create those and set the values to 1? Thank you!

sure, once there, click on edit, then new, then DWORD32
It will create a "new entry" on the bottom. change the name and create the next one the same way. then go back, click on it and change the value. thats it
    Good luck

Thanks again for the help. I did this and it has fixed half the problem. I can now send emails from Live Mail, but it still is not receiving them. When it goes into send/receive mode it still pops up the same error message noted above. Is there any other fix I can try? Thanks!

Don't know what went wrong, it worked fine for me.
Are you sure you typed the entries correct?
Did you change all values to 1?
If the answer is yes, did you use the correct Password for the logon to the server?

I just double checked everything - the password is correct and the new DWORD32 entries are spelled correctly, but I see they do not stay set at 1. I set them all at 1 and then I try to do send/receive in Live Mail (which gives the usual error message). I then go back into regedit and I see that RecreateFolderIndex and RecreateStreamIndex are both set back to 0 again (but RecreateUIDIndex is still set at 1). I tried resetting everything to 1 again, but they just revert back to 0 again. Is there something special I need to to "lock them in" at 1?

Windows upgrades/updates and restoring images sometimes corrupts the Live Mail storage folder.

This is how I fix it.

Open Live Mail and save any emails you need to a safe location NOT in the Live Mail storage folder.
You can save entire inboxes by copying the files from your User/Inbox in the Live Mail storage folder.
Export your accounts information to a safe place. Be sure that you have all your password info.
    Close Live Mail.

Then go to the Live Mail storage folder. This is a hidden folder so you must enable show hidden files and folders.
The default location is C:\Users\your username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail.

Delete everything in the Windows Live Mail storage folder.
This won't affect contacts as they are stored elsewhere.

Open Live Mail and import your accounts back in. Check for mail and enter your passwords.
If you mass saved any inboxes open the store folder and copy them back into the new user folders.

That should fix it right up.

Thanks very much! I will give this a try! May I ask a few more questions? I assume to save my emails, I just right click on the emails and select "copy to folder," correct? And I am having trouble finding the Mail stores folder you described. Under C:\Users I don't see a folder with my username, but I see a folder labeled Owner so I assume that is it? Within this folder I don't see AppData. I do see a C:\AppData folder, but there is no folder called "Local." There is C:\AppData\LocalLow, but there is no Microsoft folder within it. When I search C: for "live mail," the only thing I am seeing is a filed called Windows Live Mail.url and an old Restore Report. Can you give me any other guidance on how to find the Mail stores folder? Thank you!

You may have to go to file explorer options, then to the view tab and enable show hidden files and folders.
The AppData file in your user folder is actually hidden unless you actively choose for it to be shown.

My apologies, I always forget that part as I have show hidden files and folders enabled on all my installs.
