How do I change my 2-Step Verification?

In the past, when I logged into Gmail, the 2-Step Verification page came up & I used the Google Authenticator App (on my phone) to get my code & then I was let into my account.
But for the last few weeks, when I log into Gmail, a code is automatically sent to my phone & I do not want it set-up this way.
I find no email to contact Google to get help in changing this setting. Does anyone know how I can change this setting back to the way it was before?

I don't want to TURN OFF 2-step Verification, I want to change it back to the way it used to work.

Try: Google>Manage account>Security>2SV: click on RH arrow, it will ask you to confirm password, which should then show the available second steps, and which you are using. As I am using them all, I don't see an option to add! I don't think I can link to anywhere helpful, as it will be to my account.

Gmail does change things sometimes. Assuming your phone is a Google Android model (not an iPhone) I think Gmail security may have changed whereby it automatically identifies your phone as being the correct, allowed and secure, device and so it sends the code directly, bypassing the authenticator, which becomes redundant.

    Just a thought. I can't be 100% sure.

I opened Google>my account>Security>2-SV & below is what I see. There seems to be no way to change this setting.
I guess I'll start using the Google Prompts to get used to it. Hopefully it's just as secure.
There should be a distinction, as I'm using my desktop computer, not phone.

Yes, I do see "Add more second steps to verify it's you", but I don't want to ADD another step, I want to RETURN to the way it was setup before, (using the Authenticator app).
I'm just going to start using the Google Prompt & hopefully it's just as secure.

Can you not follow their suggestion to 'sign out of that phone' (that gets the prompts), and then add (or re-instate) the app on the phone?

I'm not using the phone, I'm going into Gmail on my desktop computer.
