Same here. And while we're discussing Edge bugs, please fix Netflix performance when you pause and resume videos, especially if you happen to move the browser around or resize. Annoying that it gets hung up literally 9 times out of 10. Still using Firefox for watching Netflix because of this, but the new Edge seems better all-around save for that, and add this auto-close annoyance to the list. We get it, Bing bing bing, but enough. Let Google run smoothly too (and vice-versa, no more stupid "are you sure?" from Google on their own pop-ups).
Try re-installing version 84.0.522.44, or earlier.
Disable the automatic Edge update in Task Scheduler.
I disabled all updates in the store app:How To: Disable Auto Update in Microsoft Edge - Windows Bulletin Tutorials
then installed the .....44 version and it shows ....49 version after install. I'll just wait for the next update
I run Edge and Edge Developer version, with "stable" Edge as my default browser. The crash occurs with me too, in both versions.
But not with Firefox. That's a relief. Not a Win10 problem.
Google updates a lot of things and never tells you with a pop-up, or even asks if you want/accept the update. Google Gmail, Search, Maps, Drive, etc., updates all say the same thing all the time. "Bug fixes", or whatever.
UPDATE: Changing the default address bar search engine from "Google" to DuckDuckGo worked! No more crashes when typing in a web address, or a search string into the address bar.
Think I'll go to the Google help website and see if the company is aware of this yet, and if there are any "fixes" being deployed. If so, I'll report back to this thread.
Microsoft’s Edge browser is crashing if you have Google set as default search
There’s a temporary workaround

Microsoft’s new Edge browser is randomly crashing when users type into the address bar tonight. The issues appear to be affecting Edge users who have selected Google as the default search engine. Microsoft says it’s aware of the problems and the company’s Edge team is investigating.
Microsoft recommends turning off Search Suggestions in edge://settings/search. The Verge has tested this workaround and it solves the problem if you have Google set as your default search engine.
Are you seeing Edge crash when trying to type into the address bar? The team is looking into it! In the meantime, as a workaround, please turn off Search Suggestions here: edge://settings/search. We'll follow up once we have more!

The Microsoft Edge crashes started at around 7PM ET, and are affecting macOS and Windows users. It’s not clear why they’re only limited to Google search users in Edge, though. If you switch to Microsoft’s Bing search engine within Edge, the crashes do not occur.
We’ve reached out to Microsoft for more information on the problems, and we’ll update you accordingly.
That is correct. This is the first forum where i found others having the same problem. In my native language (spanish) i couldn´t find anything.
I had this tweet from MS:

I was able to fix it by going to "Settings / Privacy and services / address bar" Or paste "edge://settings/search"
There remove "Disable" any search engin other then the one you are using. You can re-enable again and it will fix the problem.
By any chance if you have last pass addon you will also find it there. Disable it and re-enable.
