    Edge Keeps Crashing

Hi all, My wifes MS Edge has just started crashing. When she types in the address block and she gets 3 characters in, Edge totally shuts down. When you reopen it, it asks if you want to restore tabs or not. To check if this was something wrong with her computer, I opened Edge on mine and be darned if mine does the same thing. If I don't type in the address block and I just click on favorites it works fine. I tried Chrome and it Does Not have this problem. Also, I noticed that Edge did an update today. Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks

Same here. Edge "Regular" and Edge Developer immediately shuts down upon hitting the third letter in "www" or anything else typed into the address bar. Google is my default search engine too. Not sure how that can be related to trying to type in a web address, but it just started doing this today.

Google isn't forthcoming with notifications when it updates things.

I'll change the default search engine to DuckDuckGo and see if that makes a difference.

Not sure what it was but it now looks like it has been fixed. Both mine and my wifes working fine.

I was able to fix it by going to "Settings / Privacy and services / address bar" Or paste "edge://settings/search"
There remove "Disable" any search engin other then the one you are using. You can re-enable again and it will fix the problem.

By any chance if you have last pass addon you will also find it there. Disable it and re-enable.

I didn't have to do anything on my wifes or my computers. It started working last night and is still working ok.

That's nice. I cleaned all browser data, disabled all extensions and even rebooted the PC and non of this fixed the problem.
I was about to reset my browser profile and finally disabling the engin fixed it for me!

That is strange how some computers straighten themselves out and some didn't. I am glad that you found a workaround tho. A lot of people are posting this problem around the net so hopefully, someone can get this fixed properly.

This might sound silly but one thing that both my wife and I did that I don't see other people doing, is when our Edge was messing up, both her and I started Chrome Browser for a bit. When we finally went back to Edge it was working. Don't know if that had anything to do with it or not.

Microsoft: We've fixed mystery bug crashing Edge when Google search is set as default | ZDNet

Link above is a lengthy article which basically says the crash was caused if the search engine was Chrome. MSN states problem resolved but does not give full explanation.
