    Well I'm on the same version and guess what?

    Firefox is ignoring HOSTS file.

    Here's Vivaldi connectiong to whispa dot com (blocked in HOSTS)

    Yet Firefox connects.

    Okay fixed:

    Disable DNS over HTTPS fixes it.

    Firefox DNS-over-HTTPS | Firefox Help

    I'm not sure if that's a good idea.

    FWIW, I've not done anything special in my Firefox on any of my machines, but DNS over HTTPS is disabled by default on all of them.

    @Bree

    Well I use Cloudflare as default DNS and enabled DOH over HTTPS after failing the test here months ago:

    Cloudflare ESNI Checker | Cloudflare

    The problem is with DOH over HTTPS enabled within Firefox seems to mean that the hosts file is ignored.

    Enabled and I''m back to this:

    Hosts file is ignored again.

    It didn't matter on my config whether DoH was on or off.

    I use uBlock Origin on Firefox and new Edge, so I don't use a host file.

    Could be that you are not using Cloudflare DNS in windows.

    I use Cloudflare's DNS resolvers on the router.

    @OldNavyGuy

    DOH(DNS-over-HTTPS) bypassing the hosts file

    As far as I know DNS server that is set in windows takes precedence over any router dns settings.

    As mentioned, in my config, DoH was turned on and off for testing, and made no difference.

    uBlock Origin was enabled for all tests.

    I understand how DNS works.

    We don't set DNS servers in Windows...it's set for everyone on the router.

    The simple change of adding the www prefix to the domain name worked for using the hosts file with Firefox and new Edge (which worked without the www prefix as well), without changing anything else.
