Here's a question that has to do with the times. A friend wants to know if they can install Eudora 6.1.2 over Eudora 7.1 without losing any email. It seems to be the only way (maybe) of getting rid of the massive headers when forwarding email. They've tried everything they can find on the Net but nothing is working.
It was said in a place the older Eudora 6.1.2 gives the better option of having those things removed.
The computer world has passed Eudora by. Even if it can be coerced into working with the current Windows 10 build, it's doomed to fail eventually. Far better is an email client such as Thunderbird. Your friend can search for Thunderbird 31.6.0, the last version that supported Eudora import. Once that's been set up and her saved email is safely copied to Thunderbird, she can upgrade to the latest version (currently 68.10.0). I was a longtime Eudora user, but switched to Thunderbird because of problems with gmail and have never looked back.
Thank you for the reply! I realize Eudora went back to Europe on the Mayflower but it actually works perfect on this computer. I don't use it but tried it just for curiosity. A command put into the Eudora.ini got rid of all the Headers, including forwarding.
Putting the same command into their Eudora.ini simply will not work. Not sure why & this is why I posted the question. They're not ready to give up the past whereas I did near 14 years ago and switched to Outlook 2013 & I did that because it cost money & I was desperate for Air Miles at the time.

You might consider installing an older version of windows in a virtual desktop and then installing Eudora, but I would strongly urge your friend to use something more modern as Eudora would be a massive security risk at this point.
Do you feel they could take an older version, 6.1.2 & install it over the newer 7.0 or would that cause a lot of grief. I hear you regarding Eudora security risk & my judgment would be to move on to Outlook etc.
I really dont want to help with Eudora as I feel its not the right move. I agree with you re Outlook. Thunderbird is another option. As the wiki states: Eudora OSE and its community support forum NO LONGER EXISTS.

Are you able to access Usenet Newsgroups? It's an old Internet feature and out of general use for most people now, but a few groups are still more or less active. One is comp.mail.eudora.ms-windows. Long headers is a current topic there. That may be your best option for finding people who are Eudora experts. Most ISPs don't provide access now, but some specialized providers do. There are even a few free ones such as Eternal September.
