Just tried it SlartyBart. Turned it off, didn't help. Turned it back on, didn't help. Keep in mind these are on emails I receive. If I send myself and email with a link, the link doesn't bring up IE, but same for ones sent to me. See next note.

Outlook won't let me save in that format, but it will let me save in .txt. Here's one from this forum, but I don't think that tells you anything you don't already know.
Here is part of a Outlook 2003 email that I turned into text so you can see the code:

    Does that help?

    Tried all of that.

    1. Have gone back & forth on default browsers many times to no effect.
    2. Re-registered all the .dll's in that article. They all registered except for these:
    3. His directions for resetting the (none) http and https file types are for XP. I know where he's going, done it many times. But they don't work for Win 10 and I don't know how to get to that point in the GUI, but if I go to the registry and look at the two keys in yellow, they both have the %1 switch as shown below.

Not true. It also happens with Outlook 2003 and IE11 and Windows 10. I have posted the problem in this forum and in the MicroSoft forum. And if you read the other posts you will see that it also does not work with Outlook 2007. Apparently , the only one that does work is Outlook 2016.

You're right. I should have said Outlook 2010 and earlier. It seems really weird to me that, at least in Office 2010, Outlook is the only one that gives the nag screen. I like IE11 better than FireFox, but at least email links open right away in FireFox (if that's your default browser). I'm going to try that for a while with the one machine I still have Win 10 on.

Yeah, that wasn't much help (either my suggestion or the text format). Thanks though.

Nah, everything looks fairly standard once it's outside out Outlook.

    Thanks again

Well then I think you've done an admirable job!

Ok, nix that article, you've exhausted the possible solutions.

The dlls that wouldn't register - not to worry, .NET and Edge have changed a lot of things.
    shdoc401 is old ... IE 4
shdocvw - is browser control (probably replaced the above dll)

mshtml though ... that might be something to follow a little further.

    Internet Explorer Architecture (Internet Explorer)

If there is a solution it's most likely going to be a registry mod, perhaps with replacement dlls from your pervious OS. This won't be easy for me since I don't have Outlook 2010 to test any of this.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trident_(layout_engine)
In 2014, Trident was forked to create an engine referred to internally as "EdgeHTML" on Windows 10. The new engine is "designed for interoperability with the modern web" and deprecates or removes a number of legacy components and behaviors, including document modes, ensuring that pure, standards-compliant HTML will render properly in browsers without the need for special considerations by web developers.[12][13] This resulted in a completely new browser called Microsoft Edge, which replaces Internet Explorer as a stock browser of Windows and a base of Microsoft's web related services
I'll keep thinking and looking, but I don't have anything else now.

Wish I could have been more helpful.

Good luck, there are a lot of well versed members - one of them will probably come along and help find a solution or call the game on account of rain

I'd assumed the .dll's that wouldn't register was a Win 10 thing. I had the beta 10 for quite a while but didn't pay that much attention to it.

I keep coming back to the fact that links work normally in all Office 2010 apps...except Outlook. So if the solution is a registry tweak, isn't it something in the Office 14 keys rather than the file association keys?

Try running SFC - it might correct a SxS winner/loser.

SFC Command - Run in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

I asked for more help from other TF members, so hang in there.

You might consider using the Feedback app to bring this to MS's attention. You need a MS account to use the Feedback app.

Appreciate all the help Slarty. But SFC found nothing.

I would go to feedback, but I'd have to get it through the Windows store...which opens for about 1 second then disappears. I've assumed that problem is on their end.
